Good evening, cruise fans, Welcome to a slightly delayed edition of the 7 Seas Cruise News. Sorry about that. I had "homework" and like all good procrastinators, I left it until Sunday night, and didn't have time for the newsletter. Shame on me. I have a feeling more than a few of you can relate! (Well, maybe not. I am a world-class procrastinator!) Pat wants me to remind you to identify yourself as a newsletter reader (one of the family, as far as I' m concerned) if you want to price a Royal Caribbean or Celebrity cruise. As you all know, we can no longer discount the Royal Caribbean or Celebrity product. Except to you. Pat has his own devious ways, but he can't risk being "shopped" by Royal Caribbean, so unless you identify yourself, Pat won' t offer a discount. Tell your friends, but make sure they identify themselves, too. Think of him as running a "speakeasy" for Royal Caribbean products. Yes, it IS ridiculous, but until Royal Caribbean realizes they stand to lose a lot of business, this is the way it is. (After all, you can go Princess, Costa, NCL or Carnival at a genuine out-in-the-open discount!) Another caution that you might want to pass along to your friends and neighbors who are thinking about a cruise, don't book on line. Whether they come to Pat or not (but please ask them to!), booking a cruise on line is quite a gamble. A client of Pat's tells the tale of a friend of hers who booked a balcony cabin on line for the Holland America Zuiderdam. When he got his assignment, he learned that his balcony was one of the few on board that has a solid metal balcony railing, rather than the more attractive plexiglass that allows for a genuine view of the water. Calls to the online booking agent have not been answered, so he can't protest, ask for a change of cabin, or for that matter, specify whether he wants early or late dining. It's a cautionary tale, but one worth remembering. To reach Pat, just call him toll-free at 1-866-424- 1090 or email him at cruiseplanners7seascruises@msn. com Check the website for inspiration (but not prices!) at www.7seascruises.com And now, a quick look around the industry??¦ The Royal Caribbean International ship Legend of the Seas is moving to the U.K. in 2005 and will be sold almost entirely in the British market. Three years ago, the Splendour of the Seas was sold to South Americans and Europeans. But this is the first time the burgeoning British market is getting a Royal Caribbean ship to call its own. The Celebrity Horizon will be back in Philadelphia next summer with an additional four departures to Bermuda. Celebrity Cruises slated 13 Bermuda cruises from Philly this year, and the port said last week that "strong bookings and positive customer response" brought Celebrity back for a third year NCL has designated three September sailings, 9/12/ 04, 9/19/04 and 9/26/04 as their "Irish Festival at Sea." Entertainment will include comedienne Geraldine Doyle and her husband Patrick Ftizpatrick booked for all of the sailings. There's a terrific act from Dublin called "Graffitti Classics" booked from 9/19/04 through the 10/10/04 sailing, and another Irish act for the other 3 cruises. There will also be different Irish Step Dance Groups on each cruise to open shows and offer classes to guests. In addition, the cruise staff will have Irish trivia and other Irishism's for those sailings, plus some Irish decorations. Minor oversight: I don't know which ship or where it's going. If it sounds good, Pat will be happy to find out all the details for you. NCL Corporation today announced that it will be the first cruise line to bring passengers on North American cruises the ability to use their cell phones even when communications towers are oceans away. The company is providing the innovative new offering through Wireless Maritime Services, a joint venture of AT&T Wireless and Maritime Telecommunications Network ( MTN). Leading the way in shipboard technology, NCL pioneered the industry' s first Internet access on the high seas with its Internet caf?© in 1999. In 2002, NCL became the first cruise line to provide remote wireless Internet (also known as Wi-Fi) to its guests. Both services are now standard throughout NCL's entire fleet. The new technology is expected to be introduced on the Norwegian Sun as soon as next month and could be available fleet- wide within a year. The offering combines satellite and wireless services, enabling passengers to make and receive calls on their own cell phones with their own phone numbers while in international waters. Due to the immediate success of Movies Under The Stars on the Caribbean Princess, Princess Cruises will now expand the unique outdoor movie theater- under-the- stars to the Grand Princess in time for her inaugural season from Galveston. Timelines for Movies Under the Stars on Golden Princess will be announced shortly. And that's it for tonight. Until next week, smooth sailing! Teri |
