The hotel packages can be combined with the new eight-day Mexican Riviera cruise program on the 2,124- passenger Carnival Spirit from Oct. 16 - April 2, 2005. This marks the first time Carnival has offered a series of cruises from this Southern California port. These voyages will feature stops at three enticing Mexican ports of call -- Acapulco, Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa and Manzanillo. In fall 2005, Carnival Cruise Lines' new 110,000-ton Carnival Liberty will launch the cruise industry's only year- round six- and eight-day Caribbean cruise schedule from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The 2,974-passenger SuperLiner is the first Carnival "Fun Ship" to be based year-round in Fort Lauderdale. On this schedule, which begins Nov. 12, 2005, six-day cruises will depart Sundays and visit Freeport, The Bahamas; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Cozumel, Mexico, while eight-day voyages will depart Saturdays and alternate to the eastern and "exotic" western Caribbean. Eight-day eastern Caribbean voyages will feature five ports: San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas/St. John, U.S.V.I.; Antigua, Lesser Antilles; Tortola/Virgin Gorda, B.V.I.; and Nassau, The Bahamas, while "exotic" western Caribbean cruises will include Limon, Costa Rica; Colon, Panama; and Cozumel, Mexico. Carnival Liberty's new six- and eight-day cruises will follow a previously announced series of 12-day Mediterranean voyages from Rome (Civitavecchia) and a 16-day transatlantic crossing from Rome to Fort Lauderdale operating July 20 - Oct. 24, 2005. The eight-day "exotic" western Caribbean cruises encompass three ports - Cozumel, Mexico; Limon, Costa Rica; and Colon, Panama - which, in addition to numerous historical sites and attractions, including centuries-old ruins, offer a multitude of dining, shopping and watersports experiences. On these cruises, guests can visit the awe-inspiring Panama Canal from nearby Colon and partake in a variety of "adventure-type" tours in Limon such as canoeing, white-water rafting, and exploring the countryside in off-road vehicles. Also included is a visit to Cozumel, one of the most popular islands in the Caribbean, world-renowned for its gorgeous white-sand beaches and excellent shopping. The fourth in Carnival's highly successful "Conquest- class," Carnival Liberty will offer a wide range of "resort-style" facilities and features, including four restaurants - twin two-level main dining rooms, an expansive poolside eatery and an upscale supper club - along with a 13,000-square-foot spa, four swimming pools, a 214-foot-long water slide, a duty- free shopping mall, full casino gambling and an Internet cafe. Twenty-two lounges and bars, including a piano bar, wine bar, sports bar, a jazz club, and a multi-level theater showcasing Vegas- style productions, will also be featured. A comprehensive golf program where golfers can receive professional shipboard instruction and play top Caribbean courses will be available, as well. Of the ship's 1,487 staterooms, 60 percent will offer an ocean view with 60 percent of those featuring private verandahs. Building upon Carnival' s distinction as the family cruise leader, Carnival Liberty will house a 2,400-square-foot children's play area featuring an arts and crafts center, computer lab, and a variety of toys and games. Special dining amenities for children, including a turn-down service offering chocolate chip cookies at bedtime and a program where kids can dine with the youth counselors on Lido deck, will also be featured. Carnival Liberty will also house "Action Alley," a special area for teens, which will offer a dance club, coffee/soda bar and a high-tech game room with more than 40 video and arcade games. Whether it's to mark a special anniversary or simply celebrate the joy of marriage, Carnival Cruise Lines is offering two new packages for guests wishing to renew their wedding vows on a " Fun Ship" cruise. The renewal ceremonies, performed by the ship captains, are available fleetwide and held in a public lounge or the wedding chapel ( Spirit-class ships). The standard package starts at $385 and includes a shipboard ceremony performed by the captain, a "renewal of marriage vows" certificate, a champagne toast with two keepsake etched flutes, flowers for both bride and groom, a traditional two-tier wedding cake, pre-recorded wedding music and photographic services. The deluxe package starts at $785 and offers all the amenities of the standard package, as well as a reception with one-hour open bar and hot-and-cold canap?©s. Ceremonies include aisle runner and decorative floral arrangements. A variety of options such as videography services, live music and tuxedo rental are also available at additional cost. The wedding vow renewal packages are part of Carnival's fleet-wide wedding program, which is expected to host 2,200 couples this year and offers a variety of shipboard and shoreside wedding packages featuring romantic ceremonies aboard ship or in ports of call. Now, isn't that lovely? Pat and I are planning to renew our wedding vows on one of these soon. If you' d like to plan your own renewal ceremony, give Pat a call. He'll fix you up with a great low group rate so all your kids, friends and relatives can join in the celebration. Computers across the country are helping their users keep that 'vacation feeling' even when not at sea. Thanks to a new series of fun, downloadable features on the Princess Cruises web site, Princess fans are dressing up their computer desktops and adding screensavers with images that provide a virtual vacation aboard a Princess ship. By far the most popular of the new features is an Interactive Desktop that incorporates the live bridge cam from Sapphire Princess or Caribbean Princess. More than 60,000 people so far have chosen this option so they can take a daily escape and "sail along" with the ships right from their computer's desktop throughout the day. Among the other new download options on princess.com are other desktop pictures of Princess ships in a variety of beautiful locations, a Princess screensaver with dramatic rotating photos, a slideshow of Princess ships and destinations, and a series of icons that users can place in instant messages or on Internet message boards. The site also offers icons for the major instant messaging services. With these downloads, people who use instant messaging can have the Princess logo or their Princess Captain's Circle status shown in all their messages. In addition, Captain's Circle and Princess logos are available for use in online forums. Meanwhile, at Holland America, here's the run-down of their Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, and all the facilities available at their private island??¦"Half Moon Lagoon" is an action-packed playground. Anyone who is young at heart will find this is the perfect place to join in the fun or just observe. There is a mysterious pirate ship to explore, water cannons for little squirts, water slides for non- stop fun, foam sea creatures to play and float on and a shady bar for frosty refreshments. Feel the need for speed? We set aside a secluded section of sea and shore where guests can test their skills on the slalom course, race side-by-side on a dual race course or attempt the speed course for letting out the throttle. Then, tour the island via an Aqua Trax personal watercraft, go ashore for refreshments, enjoy an informative talk on the region's history and culture and snorkel one of the island's stunning reefs. Or you can explore parts of the island you couldn't see any other way, with a horseback trail ride through lush vegetation arriving at the shore for a one-of-a-kind adventure. The tour will include a 15-20-minute trail ride and a bareback ride through the surf on horses trained to swim in the ocean. Finally, you can visit Stingray Cove. The star performers at the island's authentic lagoon are gentle stingrays that have grown accustomed to being hand-fed. This tour will include a one-hour educational tour and hand- feeding and swimming with the stingrays. Norwegian Cruise Line modified its language on its $ 10 per-person, per-day service charge that was assessed to compensate American workers aboard NCL ships in Hawaii. NCL in June described the charge, which was introduced on NCL America's Pride of Aloha, as "not adjustable." But on its Web site, www.ncl.com, the line now advises that "in the unlikely event we cannot satisfactorily resolve the issue through our guest satisfaction program, guests will be able to adjust the service charge according to the level of inconvenience they feel they have experienced." That seems to mean that if you have a serious problem with the level of service you receive, you now have recourse. Ritzy Silverseas Cruises just launched a rebranding campaign to emphasize its Italian heritage. The line retained actress Isabella Rossellini to travel on several of its cruises as a hostess and roving " ambassador." Photos of Rossellini will appear in Silversea's ads and collateral. The campaign also includes new onboard partnerships with Italian luxury brands like bath products from Acqua di Parma and clothier Loro Piana. That's all the news in the world of cruises for now. There's still time to find a holiday cruise that will be the perfect getaway for you or your whole family. Or anticipate winter and plan now for a warm Caribbean getaway in January or February. Call Pat now while the cabin you want (and a great low price) is still available! 1-866-424-1090! Until next week, smooth sailing! Teri |
