The beaches are fabulous on both sides of the island! If you bring along your passport, you can hop over to St. Barths to see how the very wealthy and very famous vacation. One of the largest outdoor television screens ever installed on a cruise ship will be featured on Carnival Cruise Lines' new 110,000-ton Carnival Liberty when it inaugurates the line's Mediterranean cruise program this summer. "Carnival' s Seaside Theatre" - which will include a 12-foot- high by 22-foot-wide LED (light-emitting diode) screen - will be located poolside on Carnival Liberty's Lido deck and show movies, sporting events, concerts and various other programming, including the ship's own "Morning Show" hosted by the cruise director. Manufactured by Belgium-based Barco, a worldwide leader in innovative visual solutions, the massive 270-square-foot screen uses the same technology featured in large stadiums and New York's Times Square and can be seen during both the day and evening hours. In addition to superior picture quality, the state-of-the-art entertainment system includes a 70,000-watt sound system, providing concert quality sound, even outdoors. The poolside screen will take center stage during the evenings when feature films, concerts and other programming are showcased while guests relax in oversized lounge chairs and enjoy drink specials, complimentary popcorn, and other typical movie-time fare. Kids' favorite movies and cartoons will also be featured while Play Station 2 units will be connected to the system to provide a "larger than life" video game experience. The new outdoor LED screen will debut when Carnival Liberty launches the line's first-ever Mediterranean cruise program which will run from July 20, 2005 through Oct. 12, 2005. Following these voyages, Carnival Liberty will launch a new six- and eight-day Bahamas/ Caribbean schedule from Fort Lauderdale beginning Nov. 12, 2005. Six-day cruises visit George Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico; and Freeport, Bahamas. Eight-day eastern Caribbean voyages feature San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas/St. John, U.S.V.I.; Antigua, Lesser Antilles; Tortola/Virgin Gorda, B.V.I.; and Nassau, Bahamas. Western Caribbean cruises include Limon, Costa Rica; Colon, Panama; and Cozumel, Mexico. Last week, Carnival announced that Carnival Liberty will return to Europe next year to operate a series of 15 12-day Mediterranean voyages May 7 - Oct. 22, 2006. Call Pat if you'd like to sail the new Liberty! I Need A Passport?? Yes, you do! The U.S. is changing the rules and as of January 1, 2006, you will not get back into the U.S. without one! So avoid the rush and get yours now! To do so, here are the steps to follow??ŠObtain proof of citizenship such as a certified copy of your birth certificate ( from the state where you were born), a Consular report of birth abroad, an expired passport, or naturalization certificate. Have two passport pictures made at a local merchant (if you have a large chain drugstore like a Walgreen's nearby, they will do it). If you are traveling to countries that require a Visa, you will need additional photos for it. Next, download a passport application from State Department website and complete the application carefully. Prepare payment. Acceptable forms of payment vary among locations, but usually include check or credit card. The cost is $97 for those 16+ and $82 for anyone under 16. Add $60 for each application for expedited service. (See why we're suggesting you do it now?) Be sure to check mailing address when completing application envelope. The address differs based on where you live. Now, go to the nearest passport acceptance facility to pay and mail. The 6000 acceptance facilities include many Federal, state and probate courts, post offices, some public libraries and a number of county and municipal offices. There are also 13 regional passport agencies, which serve customers who are traveling within 2 weeks (14 days) or who need foreign visas for travel. Appointments are required in such cases. Wait 4 to 6 weeks, depending on time of year. To receive your passport as soon as possible, you should arrange overnight delivery service for both sending your passport application and returning your passport to you. Or just plan ahead! Now, you need not go to New York to go to Bermuda! Costa Cruises will sail two Bermuda cruises on the Costa Magica as part of its new Caribbean season and called the itinerary "the highlight" of the ship's 2005/2006 winter cruises. The two voyages are set to depart from Fort Lauderdale April 21 and 28. This is a great opportunity for those of us in Florida to visit a new destination. If you haven't seen Bermuda, you will enjoy it! Excellent history, lovely pink sand beaches, charming people, vivid white cottages and beautiful flowers! And you don't have to go to NY to sail! Perfect! Costa said the Costa Magica, which will be the line' s largest vessel yet to sail Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale, also will offer alternating eastern and western Caribbean cruises and a new seven-day itinerary that will call at St. Maarten, Tortola and Nassau, Bahamas. Eastern Caribbean cruises visit San Juan; St. Thomas; Catalina Island, Dominican Republic; and Freeport, Bahamas, or Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Western Caribbean cruises call at Key West, Fla.; Cozumel, Mexico; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, with select sailings calling at Progreso, Mexico and Roatan, Honduras. In addition to the Magica, the Costa Mediterranea also sails eastern and western Caribbean journeys. Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas will sail 9- night Western Caribbean round-trip voyages from Baltimore, Maryland between May 12, 2006 and November 10, 2006 with visits to Grand Bahama Island; Key West, Florida; Cozumel, Mexico; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Port Canaveral, Florida. Another excellent opportunity to cruise from a new port of call! Perfect for everyone from Philadelphia through the Carolinas! Explorer of the Seas will sail 9-night Eastern Caribbean round trip voyages from Cape Liberty Cruise Port, NJ between May 19, 2006 and October 6, 2006 with visits to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Labadee, Hispaniola. On Alternating weeks, Explorer of the Seas will sail 9-night Western Caribbean round trip voyages from Cape Liberty Cruise Port, NJ between June 2, 2006 and October 20, 2006 with visits to Miami, Florida; George Town, Grand Cayman; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; and Labadee, Hispaniola. Pat got a call the other day from a client asking what cruise line is best when taking the kids along. These days, there are a number of good choices. Carnival is excellent, of course. They have cruising with kids down to an art and Camp Carnival is a great experience for the little and not so little ones. Holland America's Club Hal is very nice, as is the program aboard Princess. NCL offers Kid's Crew which is very popular, as is Royal Caribbean's Adventure Ocean. Costa has a program, too - Costa Kids. They're all good and they all make excellent opportunities to Disney Cruises. I'm not knocking Disney, but for total family cruises, you need not book Disney just to make sure the kids are entertained. They'll do just fine on any of the other lines! Until next Sunday, have a great week! Smooth sailing, Teri |
