Hello Cruise Fans, Welcome to another edition of the 7 Seas Cruise News, brought to you by Pat " Permanently on Vacation" Crane. That's how he says he feels since we moved down here to Boca Raton, Florida just about 4 weeks ago. He has made a great transition to life on the sand bar (better than my adjustment) and he loves this weather. Of course, he's not really on vacation. He's still at the computer and the telephone every day, helping his special people (you) get the best price for all your cruises. You can reach him at the same toll- free number, 1-866-424-1090, the same e-mail address: cruiseplanners7seascruises@msn.com and at the same website, www.7seascruises.com Some space is still available for the holidays, but it is going fast. The next big push will be spring break, so if you have an idea of a spring vacation trip for your family, call now. And now, some cruise news??¦ CELEBRITY COOKS UP FUN FOR KIDS Children sailing with Celebrity Cruises now can tell their parents to "bug off, " and mean it. "Celebrity Science Journeys" allows parents to escape to the pool or Celebrity's AquaSpaSM knowing that their children are busy discovering insects, experimenting with sea life or exploring the history of pirates. Celebrity Science Journeys will be offered daily on every ship beginning November 27, 2003. The hands-on programs range from 30 minutes to one hour, and are age- appropriate for children from three to 12 years. The six Celebrity Science Journeys include: Buccaneer' s Bounty, that traces the history of pirates, sunken treasure and excavation. Earthworks includes lessons about biomes, pollination and the solar system. Environmentation Station explores natural phenomena and "man-made" disasters. Get Buggy offers encounters with insects and arachnids, and traces the process of metamorphosis. Sounds of the Sea presents the opportunity to listen to sea-life communicate underwater, including dolphins and whales. Wacky Weather reviews everything from hurricanes to air pressure, tsunamis to thunder, and how weather patterns emerge and change. Celebrity's Family Cruising Program is led by trained youth counselors. Program hours are 9 a.m.-12 noon; 2 p.m.- 5 p.m.; and 7 p.m.- 10 p.m., whether in port or at sea. FANTASY MAKEOVER COMPLETE Carnival Cruise Lines' 2,056-passenger Fantasy got a multi-million-dollar refurbishment as part of its scheduled five-week drydock. The refurbishment, which took place at the Freeport Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas, includes a new lobby bar, remodeled cabins and a redesigned promenade. Changes will be evident from the moment guests arrive on board. The first level of the ship's soaring seven- deck-high atrium now features a new lobby bar offering the ideal spot for before- and after- dinner cocktails and people watching. Popularized on Carnival's Destiny- and Spirit- class vessels, the new venue will also include a stage where a trio will play classical music during embarkation and throughout the voyage. Each of the Fantasy's 1,028 staterooms received a complete makeover with new wall coverings, furniture, bedding and linens. In- cabin bathrooms were fully remodeled, as well, with updated vanities, new tile work and shampoo and soap dispensers.Via Marina, an enclosed double-width promenade, also received a facelift, with elegant new furniture and a decorative marble floor with carpet inlays, while The Forum, the Fantasy's conference facility, has been reconfigured so that it can be utilized as both a meeting space and entertainment venue. Windows on the Sea, the ship's poolside restaurant, was enhanced with new tile work, carpeting and additional salad and dessert bar stations. Numerous other areas throughout the ship, including Cleopatra's Bar, Electricity Dance Club, Cats Lounge, and Celebration and Jubilee dining rooms, will receive cosmetic enhancements, with new carpeting and wall coverings throughout. Al lthis in 5 weeks? Amazing! The namesake vessel in Carnival's Fantasy-class, the 70,000-ton SuperLiner entered service in 1990 and operates year-round three- and four-day Bahamas voyages from Port Canaveral, Fla. GIANTS PICK NCL Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) kicked off its second partnership year with the New York Giants again becoming the team's " Preferred Cruise Line." In addition, the company will host its second annual Game Day promotion and award one lucky fan a 7-day cruise vacation at halftime of the Giants' Nov. 9, 2003 contest with the Atlanta Falcons. NCL AIDS BERMUDA SCHOOL A festive crowd of 4,000 enjoyed a benefit concert by entertainers from Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)'s Norwegian Majesty and Norwegian Sea in Bermuda last week. The event, which was held in St. George's Town Square on Tuesday, October 7, raised more than $12,000 for the St. George's Preparatory School, which was heavily damaged last month by Hurricane Fabian. Next up in our rundown of Baltic ports we visited on the new Holland America Oosterdam in August and September this year was Warnemunde, Germany. Pronounced VAR- na- moon- dee, this beach town was our first encounter with Germany. I have a feeling it's not exactly typical of German touring, however. First off, until the fall of the Berlin wall, this part of Baltic Germany was East Germany. Consequently, most people over 30 don't speak any English at all. Some of the younger people shyly tried a few halting words, but their parents just nodded, pointed and smiled. But despite our language problems, Pat and I really enjoyed our visit. Warnemunde is cute. It's not historically significant. It's just a resort town, and on the sunny Sunday afternoon we were there, a holiday atmosphere prevailed. Highlights were the sidewalk cafes and floating snackbars. A tram offers a ride through the residential part of town and past the beach hotels and boardwalk. Shops and stores offer a limited variety of souvenirs and apparel. There's not a lot to do, which made the day easy to enjoy. Since we decided that boat touring is a great way to look around (and save our feet), we took a round- trip ride down the river for a look at Rostock- a much larger and more serious city. Those who visited said they found the endless, colorless apartment blocks depressing. From the river, however, those same apartment buildings are bright, colorful and landscaped. This is a holdover from the years of a divided Germany. As explained to us, it was common to put on a pleasant face-that is, to put up a front for outsiders to see, so the sides of buildings facing the river were always painted and prettied up. Also along the river is a shipbuilding facility where supertankers are constructed and next to it, a gigantic dry- dock facility, and a Caterpillar plant-a long way from home. That's it for this week. Until next week, calm seas and bright stars overhead! Teri |
