This issue is brought to you as a client service by Pat Crane, proprietor of 7 Seas Cruises and a genuine wonderful guy. Of course, I' m married to him... These are the same cruises the people down the street are paying a whole lot more for. But not you. You're too smart for that. You have Pat on your side! You're invited to visit our better-than-new website, www.7seascruises.com. We've gone to a new web provider to give you a better online experience. Browse at your leisure (you can do that now!) and if you find something that looks good, please request a quote. A 'Time for Men' brochure lists treatments such as a pro-collagen shave, frangipani hair conditioning, skin IQ facial and aroma stone therapy massage. According to the International Spa Association (ISPA), 36% of spa travelers are male. Crystal reports that since testing its ' Time for Men' services earlier this year, the line has chalked up a 20% increase in male spa customers. Crystal partnered with Elemis, a division of Steiner Leisure, to develop the men's therapies. They include new shaves, which Crystal describes as more like mini-massages than a traditional shave. The 'Deep Cleanse Grooming Treatment with Shave' includes a face and scalp massage and a cleansing mask, while the 55-minute 'Pro-Collagen Grooming Treatment with Shave' incorporates a mini-facial and face, scalp, hand and arm massage. Sounds like a great Father's Day present to me! Regent Seven Seas Cruises will adopt a liquor- inclusive policy in 2007, with select complimentary wine and spirits at all bars and restaurants fleetwide. 'Our world cruises already have this inclusive liquor policy, and our guests have told us how much they like it,' said Regent president Mark Conroy. 'In fact, we' ve noticed how the policy has contributed to the air of conviviality aboard, with more people getting out of their suites socializing. It's this open, intimate spirit of camaraderie we wish to foster on all Regent voyages.' THE NORWEGIAN CROWN ran into a coral reef while sailing into Hamilton, Bermuda, on June 7 while being guided by a local pilot during heavy rain. No one on the ship was hurt. The Crown was freed at about 6:30 p.m. the same day, and while a full damage assessment was to be conducted by a team of divers, NCL said there appeared to be no damage to the ship. The coral reef likely did not fare as well: according to Dr. Thomas Sleeter, director of environmental protection for Bermuda, when a ship hits a coral reef, typically "it destroys it." The Crown had sailed from Philadelphia on June 4 with 1,135 passengers and 537 crew onboard. NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE will homeport the Norwegian Spirit in New Orleans from November 2007 to April 2008, sailing a western Caribbean itinerary with calls in Belize City, Belize; Santo Tomas, Guatemala; and Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. After spending a summer sailing out of New York, the Spirit will reposition to New Orleans on Nov. 18, replacing the Norwegian Sun, which will move to Hawaii for the winter. The New Orleans itineraries will be on sale in the next few weeks. ROYAL CARIBBEAN confirmed that it will homeport the Legend of the Seas in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, beginning in December 2007. The cruise line had earlier stated plans to sail from the Dominican Republic but hadn't specified a port city. The Legend will sail out of Santo Domingo through spring 2008 on alternating eight- day itineraries and call in Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Roseau, Dominica; St. George's, Grenada; Margarita Island, Venezuela; Oranjestad, Aruba; Basseterre, St. Kitts; Point a Pitre, Guadeloupe; Fort de France, Martinique; Bridgetown, Barbados; and Castries, St. Lucia. Royal Caribbean said that since the itineraries do not include any U.S. ports they are "likely to be popular with international guests." Carnival Corporation announced that it has ordered two cruise ships for its European brands with an option for a third. Included in the most recent order are a 92, 700-ton vessel for Genoa, Italy-based Costa Crociere, as well as an option for a sister ship, both to be built by Italy's Fincantieri shipyard, and a 68,500-ton ship for its Rostock, Germany- based AIDA Cruises to be built by Germany's Meyer Werft yard. The new vessels will add more than 6, 500 total lower berths to the Carnival Corporation fleet and build upon its leadership position within the rapidly expanding European cruise market, with six million passengers expected to set sail by 2015. The new Costa ships will be built at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard and have a basis- two capacity of 2,260 each. The first ship is scheduled to enter service in spring 2009. If the option is exercised, the second ship is slated to debut in fall 2010. The all-in cost for each vessel will be approximately 420 million euro. Including the new ship and option, Costa currently has five new vessels on order from Fincantieri representing 13,520 total lower berths. That's about it for this week. Pat will be waiting for your call! And until next week, smooth sailing... Teri |
