[Morning By Morning - he wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught]

Romans 8: 16

Good morning! We shall take one last look at this verse by itself. Although its wording is somewhat abstract, what Paul is talking about here is the highest experience a person can know on this earth.

6The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

We've studied it a little. It's about the message, delivered directly, by the Holy Spirit Himself to our spirit, that we are the children of God, an heir with Jesus (and because of Jesus) of the Kingdom.

There is something more available to you as a believer than the belief, carried in your mind, that you are saved based on the faith you have put in Jesus. That is very wonderful, but it is not all that God wants to give you. You can most certainly experience the Holy Spirit coming to your spirit and warming you with His love. All across the ages since Jesus promised to send the Spirit, ordinary people have sought and been given this extraordinary intimacy with God. It radiates from the pages of the Acts, from the descriptions of the Ephesians and Thessalonians, from the exhuberance of the Fathers, from the women saints of the Middle Ages, from the great evangelists of the 18th and 19th centuries and those who received their ministries. Whitefield wrote of those whose faith was written on their hearts by the rays of the sun. Jesus told us to ask and seek and knock for this very thing -- the Holy Spirit speaking into our spirit.

He told us not only to ask and seek and knock, but also that when we did we would receive. He promised, saying -- "would any of you, if your son asked for some bread, give him a stone? Or if he aksed for a fish would you give him a scorpion?"

This is not on my grandkid's menu.

This promise is a no-compromise kind of statement. God is way out there with it. He has promised and if He doesn't deliver on this, He won't be good for His word. Unthinkable.

Therefore ask. If you have never felt or known the Holy Spirit's powerful direct blessing, ask for Him to come and bear witness to your spirit, so that you will know in your knower that God will always be your loving Abba.

Ask.

Ask until He answers. Don't give up. Don't ask for cars or for someone else to be improved or for anything less than this. Press in on Him and plead. If it takes days or even weeks, keep on asking.

He will break through and you will become the witness you have always wanted to be.

Love,
Jeff
