Dear neighbor,

Greetings from the 46th Ward Democrats. We wanted to take this opportunity to educate 46th Ward voters about the critical February 5th elections, and give you the opportunity to share your concerns about the issues facing our community.

Lets Stay Connected
As the elected Democratic Committeeman for Chicago’s 46th Ward, I enjoy hearing from voters about their views on government. At meetings and events, I have the opportunity to share these views with the other elected officials who represent us at the city, county, state and federal level. Do you have a question or comment about any government issue? Please e-mail me at Tom.Sharpe@att.net or call 773-327-4646.

February 5: The Big Election!
Illinois’ primary elections have been moved up to February 5th, 2008 so that our state will have a greater say in the presidential nominating process. On February 5th, you will be able to vote for your preferred presidential candidate as well as voting in state and federal races. One of the biggest battles will be the Democratic primary race for Cook County State’s Attorney –our chief law enforcement official. Incumbent Dick Devine is retiring, and Alderman Howard Brookins, Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin and Alderman Tom Allen are among the leading candidates to replace him. This will be an exciting race, and the winner will likely take on Republican Tony Peraica in November.

Our State Legislators Honored for Fighting Breast Cancer46th Ward voters are fortunate to be represented by state legislators who are leaders on health care issues. On Saturday, September 29th, Susan G. Komen for the Cure – the world’s largest breast cancer organization – honored our State Senator Carol Ronen, and our State Representatives Greg Harris and Sara Feigenholtz, for their work passing new laws to promote early detection of breast cancer. They were honored with the 2007 Komen Champion for the Cure award at the Chicago Race for the Cure. Congratulations Carol, Greg and Sara!

Upcoming events: How to get involved with your Democratic Party
Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, notable celebrities and other Democratic leaders will be coming to our very own 46th Ward on Monday, November 26th for a special fundraising event. We’ll need help to spread the word and ensure that this event is a success! Please e-mail Sean Tenner at Sean@The46thWard.org if you are interested in helping. You can also contact the 46th Ward Democrats if you would like to volunteer on a specific Democratic campaign.

Register to VoteIf you are unsure of your voter registration status, need to know where to vote, or want to help get a friend registered to vote, contact the Chicago Board of Elections at 312-269-7900 or visit www.chicagoelections.com.
