What features would you like to see added (or removed)? Beginning with the April issue, the WB Gazette will feature a reader's mailbag. Ask your questions, make your comments and we'll do our best to answer. Happy Writing! Denise ------------------------------------------------------------ FEATURED ARTICLE: How to Jumpstart your Next Writing Session ------------------------------------------------------------ by David Parton I have always enjoyed writing. Sometimes it??™s a problem for me to just sit down and write something. There are days when I choose ???procrastinating??? over ???proactive.??? Putting things off is common with everyone. I am very gifted in this area. ;) Here are 4 areas to focus on to jumpstart your next writing session. Read on: http://www.writerbuddy.com/wbhome/articles/jumpstart.html ------------------------------------------------------------ FEATURED ARTICLE: Pacing: Five-Speed Storytelling ------------------------------------------------------------ by Susan J. Letham When we talk about time in fiction, we talk about it in two ways: as story duration (or story time,) which is the time period covered by the story, and as discourse time (the time it takes to actually tell the story). The relationship between story time and discourse time is where pacing enters the process. There are five ways in which story time and discourse time relate to one another--five story "speeds," if you like. The five speeds translate into a set of pacing tools that let you accelerate or slow the speed of your story, as required. Read on: http://www.writerbuddy.com/wbhome/articles/pacing.html ------------------------------------------------------------ FEATURED ARTICLE: A Writing Exercise That Increases Awareness And Description Skills ------------------------------------------------------------ by Catherine Franz Practice attaching words to feelings requires time to do. Without a system that helps you monitor that time, the minutes or hours could feel unproductive. With the right exercise, you can then use that time wisely, as well as save you time and frustration. Learning to apply the right words to our six senses is a top ingredient to the mixture of writing. Its language brings the reader into the story. All of us easily know how we feel, or what we're seeing (okay, most of the time), what we're hearing, smelling, tasting, and sensing, and can usually explain it in 50 words if pushed to do it. But, how do you describe it in one or two words without the pushing? Also, by beginning with good material, the remaining part of the writing process becomes easier. This exercise will help you improve your beginning. Read on: http://www.writerbuddy.com/wbhome/articles/increase_awareness. html ------------------------------------------------------------ FEATURED ARTICLE: Build Healthy Writing Habits ------------------------------------------------------------ by Diana Barnum Do you have good writing habits? Are you meeting or exceeding your own expectations? Consider this gentleman below: A 19th century British Postal clerk decided to start writing 3,000 words each day so that he could author his very own first novel. He placed his watch on the table and wrote before leaving the house every morning. This new habit paid off, and later Anthony Trollope published not one, but many novels; among them, "The Macdermots of Ballycloran" (1847), "Phineas Finn" and "He Knew He Was Right" (both 1869). What do you think? Maybe it??™s time to think about changing or starting some of your own writing habits. If you want more out of your nonfiction plans, here are five tips, the FIVE A??™S, to build healthier habits: Read on: http://www.writerbuddy.com/wbhome/articles/ healthy_writing_habits.html ------------------------------------------------------------ WRITER BUDDY MEMBER & COMMUNITY NEWS ------------------------------------------------------------ WB Members Published!!
