BREAKING NEWS OF ALL THINGS TALLFELLOW

Our new book, Doing It For Money – The Agony and Ecstasy of Writing and Surviving in Hollywood, published in conjunction with the Writers Guild Foundation, is featured in Premiere Magazine this month with a photo of the cover and this: “…plenty of humor and savvy tips for aspiring screenwriters….”

It was also reviewed in Scr(i)pt Magazine with this nice recommendation: “A must-read for anyone working in or trying to break into the industry.”

And it was excerpted in the London Sunday Telegraph magazine - Seven which featured a three-page piece plus sidebar of notable quotes from the book. Nice!

And (again), we had a half page review with cover in Entertainment Today’s Development Hell column by Brad Schreiber.

And (even again), our launch parties at the Barnes & Noble at the Grove (for the public) and the Writers Guild (by invitation only!) were big successes with over 20 contributors reading their entries to, mingling with and signing books for SRO crowds. Variety featured a photo of Steven Rogers (Kate & Leopold, Hope Floats), Chris Brancato (The X-Files, Boomtown) and Robert Nelson Jacobs (Chocolat, The Shipping News). Yummy food was provided by Cucina Paradiso and the champagne flowed courtesy of Mo?t et Chandon.

And for those of you who don’t know, the book features 48 top film and TV writers first-hand stories of working in the entertainment industry. Contributors include Terry Rossio, who just had a little movie open called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Steve Gaghan (Syriana, Traffic), John August (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Big Fish), Chris Brancato (The X-Files, Boomtown), Leslie Dixon (The Thomas Crown Affair, Mrs. Doubtfire), Robert Cochran (24, L.A. Law), Gregory Allen Howard (Ali, Remember the Titans), Ted Tally (Silence of the Lambs) and many more. Also included are insider secrets from Hollywood pros on beating the system and avoiding the pitfalls of the ‘biz.” For a complete list of contributors and some notable quotes from the book, visit our website:Tallfellow.com.

On an extremely sad note, we are dedicating this issue of the Tribune to the author/editor of the new book, Daryl G. Nickens, who passed away two weeks ago. He was a warm, wonderful man who really made the book what it is. We will all miss him terribly.

AND, IN ANOTHER, TOTALLY UNRELATED STORY

Our own Leonard Stern was recently honored with the Masters of Laughter Award for Games (with Roger Price) from Gotta Laff Games for Mad Libs. The award recognizes great work that creates laughter as Mad Libs has and continues to do. The award is a Heraldic Runner with Rubber Chicken…and it’s great! Congrats Leonard.

PAINLESS PROMOTION OF THE MONTH:

Our Ten Minutes to Success series book Ten Minutes to the Audition just received a great review from Showbizhowto.com. Here are a few excerpts:

"If you are at all serious about being a successful actor, then this next book belongs next to your heart."

"It's just the right size for keeping with you at all times. Which I advise you to do."

"It's clear you're in the hands of a pro."

"Believe me, these four pages are worth the price of the book [referring to the Checklist]. The other 92 pages are also a delight, very helpful and filled with an obvious love of craft - containing many gems of good advice, that will undoubtedly hit home with most performers."

Success is just minutes away…Ten Minutes to be exact. See this book and all our great books at tallfellow.com.
