Yes, that’s really bad and yes, we won’t go into the reasons why. Just rejoice in the fact that that you have a full edition of trivia, games, contests and news from Tallfellow Press of Los Angeles - a pioneer in indie publishing. See below for June trivia, special discounts, funny found internet stuff and our next Droodles Caption Contest (and last issue’s winner, if you remember back that far…and he or she is still alive!).

Tallfellow Trivia for June:

  • On June 17th, Sir Francis Drake discovered New Albion. What is New Albion better known as and what year was it discovered?
  • On June 8th, ice cream was sold for the first time. Where did this wonderful event take place and what year?
  • The first baseball game took place on June 19th. Where and when?
  • The United Nations Charter was signed on the 26th of June. How many nations joined and what year was it signed?
  • Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1st. What year? What was her real name (be careful!)?
  • Did you know that Ford Motor Company was founded in June 1903?
  • Did you know the Magna Carta was signed by King John of England in June 1215?
  • Did you know the fork was first introduced to America in June, 1630 by Governor Winthrop of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Other people thought him strange and rude for using a fork. The popular belief was that using a fork was an insult to God since He (she?) gave humans fingers to eat their food.
  • Did you know that the first attempt at a moving picture (motion picture) was created on June 15th, 1878? Eadweard Muybridge was the photographer who made the motion picture. He set up twelve cameras along a racetrack with strings attached to their shutters. When the horse ran by, he broke the strings and tripped the shutters, taking twelve pictures. These showed that - yes, all of a horse's hooves are in the air at once while it runs...and the rest is film history!
  • Some famous June birthdays: Paul Gauguin, Morgan Freeman, Lillian Hellman, Cole Porter, Basil Rathbone, Carly Simon, John Dillinger, Bernie Kopell, Martha Dandridge (Washington), Liam Neesan, Bjorn Borg, Barry Manilow, George Orwell, Chris Isaak, Edvard Grieg, Mark Walberg, M.C. Escher, Jacques Cousteau, Ann Frank, Bob Fosse, Gilda Radner, the Dalai Lama and Johnny Depp.

This month’s trivia is brought to you by our brand new book,

Ten Minutes to the Speech by Vance Van Petten.
