SPOTLIGHT ON...Tanya Boyd (Celeste
Perrault, Days of Our Lives)
Raised in Detroit, young Tanya decided
at seven to be an actor. At 15, she left for New York City to study at the
renowned Lee Strasberg Institute. The scene that greeted her was fellow
students hanging off chairs, moaning, groaning and jumping off furniture. Even
though she thought she "had walked into an insane asylum," she
stayed. After several years she moved to Los Angeles.
Tanya's first love is theater, having
performed in Cotton, Jelly's Last Jam and No Place to Be
Somebody. In 1993, she received a Drama-Logue Critics Award for Best
Performance for her role in the world premiere of Indigo Blues. On TV,
in primetime, she appeared on Under One Roof, A Different World, Parker
Lewis (Can't Lose) and the TV movie Tricks of the Trade with Penny
Marshall and Markie Post.
Tanya's remarkable ability to hear
obscure tones led to opportunities to sing back-up for Anita Baker, Lou Rawls
and Natalie Cole. After the tour with Natalie Cole, in 1994, Tanya auditioned
for Days of Our Lives, where she has played Celeste, on-and-off since.
After her first stint, she flew to New Orleans to be with boyfriend Bobby
Lyle, a highly acclaimed pianist and recording artist. She returned to Days
in July 1994. In December, she and Bobby married in a candlelight ceremony.
Tanya has also turned her incredible
talent to directing. She has directed the Mojo Thetre Ensemble in Los Angeles.
She directed the comedy The Mojo Man for the 1994 NAACP Playwrights
Competition, winning first runner-up.
