SPOTLIGHT ON...Ilene Kristen (Roxanne Balsom, One Life to Live) www.ilenekristen.tripod.com

Ilene may have been remembered as Delia on Ryan's Hope, but now she will always be known as the entertaining, unpredictable, carefree, fan favorite from day one, Roxy!

Ilene's Broadway debut was in Henry, Sweet, Henry. She moved on to originate the role of Patty Simcox in Grease. She has appeared as Leona Helmsley in the production of Mayor, based on Ed Koch's book. Off-Broadway, she boasts roles in Acts of Providence, Trust, All That Glitters, Light Up The Sky, The Dolphin Position, Cowboy, The Gig and Marvin's Room and most recently Save Me and Blood Orange. Ilene has been a member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre since 1984.

Elsewhere on TV, Ilene has appeared on Law & Order, Third Watch and The Sopranos. Other daytime work includes Loving (Norma) and Another World (Madeline). If you thought you saw her in Tinsel Town, you're right.

In 1977, she co-founded the Jean Renoir Cinema in Greenwich Village which specializes in independent and rarely seen foreign films. She produced the award-winning short, The Aftermath and in 1997 was a producer for Everything's George, starring Frank Gorshin and Rodney Dangerfield.

Since the 80s, Ilene has been a regular in the music scene, performing with the samba band, PE DE BOI, where she added an R&B touch; her own band, Pulse; Bruce Willis' band The Persuasions and has collaborated with saxophonist Victor Lesser. Ilene wrote the lyrics of In a Heartbeat on jazz guitarist Chuck Loeb's current album.

In 1996, Ilene was the literary manager and consulting producer for the Musical Theatre Works, producing the musical, Him and Her; producing and directing scenes from Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin and producing a reading of Leonardo's Judas and a showcase for new composers called Fresh Voices. She has been on the EST Board of Directors since 1984.

Ilene piloted an arts program for homeless children of the Prince George Hotel from 1986 to 1989. She has kept in touch with many of the families and continues to counsel them.

Ilene now lives in New York and loves to travel.
