Editor's Note

Passions fans rejoice: the show will live on, thanks to an agreement between NBC Universal Television and DIRECTV, the nation's largest satellite television provider. The eight-year old soap will continue to tape and air original episodes. You will need to be a subscriber of DIRECTV, though. "Passions fans no longer need to mourn the demise of their beloved program as it has found new life on DIRECTV," said Eric Shanks, executive vice president of Entertainment for DIRECTV. "We care about this show and are extremely proud to give it an exclusive home here at DIRECTV." However, the show will only air four times a week: Monday through Thursday at 2:00 p.m., with marathons of the week's episodes airing each weekend. This will be the first scripted drama series for DIRECTV's original programming channel, The 101. "This new arrangement with DIRECTV is truly a landmark development that allows NBC Universal to extend the Passions brand in a fresh and entirely new way, to DIRECTV’s 16 million homes," said Marc Graboff, president, NBC Universal Television, West Coast. "It will reward the dedicated fans of the daytime drama who can continue to enjoy it on DIRECTV and also opens up a great new model for other television programs to find new life on other non-traditional platforms."

Passions ends it run on NBC Friday, September 14. Beginning Monday, September 17, it will air on DIRECTV, picking up exactly where NBC left off.

In other happy news, Trevor St. John (Todd, One Life to Live), Natalia Livingston (Emily, General Hospital) and Sharon Case (Sharon, Young & the Restless) have all re-signed with their shows.

SPOTLIGHT ON...Deidre Hall (Dr. Marlena Evans, Days of Our Lives) www.deidrehall.com

Deidre has reigned as one of America's most beloved actresses since her debut as Marlena on Days of Our Lives in June 1976. Deidre has been named Best Television Role Model, won the prestigious American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) award in 1994, won 5 Best Actress awards from Soap Opera Digest, as well as 3 Emmy Award nominations, 2 Best Actress nominations at the People's Choice Awards and a nomination of half of one of daytime's Hottest Couples from Soap Opera Digest.

Her primetime work is extensive and varied, including starring in the movie A Reason to Live with Peter Fonda and Rick Schroeder and the 1986 series Our House with Wilford Brimley and Shannen Doherty, in which she became the first performer to star in daytime and primetime simultaneously.

The following two years after Our House, Deidre took a break from daytime to pursue an exclusive career in primetime. She returned to Days in 1991. In 1992, she made history again, starring and executive producing, Never Say Never: The Deidre Hall Story. The telefilm chronicled the birth of her first child via the surrogacy process.

Most recently, Deidre was honored with an Intimate Portrait by Lifetime Television, saluting her personal and professional achievements. She acts as the national spokesperson for Hallmark's To Kid With Love card line, Dexatrim products, Exfole Skin Care Products and the Baby Genius child development program. She is currently the consumer spokesperson for ScanDiet, a patented soy protein weight management product.

In 1996, she launched her own jewelry line, The Timeless Collection, reflective of her own life as well as Marlena's. The collection was available through the Home Shopping Network. Since becoming a mother, Deidre has become a tireless advocate for children's issues. She has produced a charity oriented Days calendar since 1984, is currently spearheading a Days cookbook to benefit St. Jude's Research Hospital and is actively involved with (and been honored for her contributions to) P.A.T.H.
