      Editor's Note

If you were wondering what happened to Peter Rickell (Bo, Days of Our Lives) on the August 9 episode -- here's the scoop. The actor got into a motorcycle accident and broke his collarbone in three places. He reported to work just after having surgery. Co-star Kristian Alfonso (Hope) says, "He's still on the mend, and I, of course, don't want to touch him on the left side. If Hope has to move in for a kiss, I put my hands behind my back. Meanwhile, Pete looks at me terrified, like, 'Please, don't touch me!' " Best wishes Peter for a speedy recovery.

Last week on All My Children, it was revealed that young Spike is permanently deaf. Co-head writer James Harmon Brown said, "Relationships are tested by tragedies or accidents. They can become stronger or they can unravel completely." That means that they're going to take the opportunity to educate viewers by casting deaf actors to support the story and explore the various medical options available to people suffering from hearing loss. One of the ways they'll deal with the latter is to join forces with the League for the Hard of Hearing and One Life to Live star Kassie DePaiva (Blair) and her stepson JQ, who was born deaf and received his first cochlear implant at 18 months. The soap promises that Spike's situation will not miraculously "heal" itself soap style either. "We wanted what happened to Spike to be a permanent situation that all of these people have to deal with," notes Brown.
