SPOTLIGHT ON...Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis
Davis, General Hospital) www.nancyleegrahn.com
The seasoned, Emmy-Award winning
actress arrived at General Hospital in 1996. In July 2001, Nancy graced
the cover of the prestigious California Lawyer magazine, with a caption
that read, Move Over Ally; General Hospital's Alexis Davis is the
Best Lawyer on Television.
Nancy grew up in Skokie, Illinois, to
which she often returns to visit her family. It was in one of its community
theater productions (Oklahoma) that she landed her first role, the
pony on the left that pulled the surrey with the fringe on top.
While attending the Neighborhood
Playhouse in New York City, she was fortunate to study with Sandy Meisner and
Bill Epsen. She has landed roles in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Guys
and Dolls, Two for the Seesaw and Barefoot in the Park at
various repertory theaters across the country.
After deciding to move to Los
Angeles, Nancy first appeared as Beverly on One Life to Live. She then
guest-starred on Magnum P.I., Murder, She Wrote, Babylon V, Diagnosis
Murder, Models Inc., Melrose Place, 7th Heaven, Murder
One and more. It was her role of Julia on Santa Barbara that landed
her first Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in 1989.
She has also written two plays,
chaired the Media Access Awards to promote portrayal of disability in the
media, volunteered at Van Nuys Child Abuse Clinic and toured college campuses
promoting specific women's issues. She and her father, a recovering alcoholic,
also went on the talk show circuit to discuss alcoholism and its impact on
families. Nancy founded Daytime for Choice in 1989, consisting of the support
of 99% of the daytime community and organized and hosted Daytime for Gore,
which brought Daytime's biggest stars together during the 2000 presidential
election.
A single working mother, Nancy lives
with the love of her life, daughter Katherine Grace in Los Angeles.
