There aren't really any characters leaving this week. The characters who will be "disappearing" will all eventually come back. Why? There's lots of personal problems and maternity leaves floating around SoapLand. Check out the "News & Rumors" for the latest, which is packed this week! There are also a lot of new characters coming, so let's get to it.

All My Children Having finished filming the movie Reefer Madness, Christian Campbell (Bobby) returns July 7.

Days of Our Lives The new Belle (Charity Rahmer) begins July 19. Be sure to catch Kirsten Storms' last shows this week.

General Hospital Helena (Constance Towers) returns July 19 to spy on Nikolas. Lucas Jones will soon be played by Ryan Carnes. Simon (Clive Robertson) is a music exec coming to town July 28 to discover GRRRL Power.

Guiding Light Sheryl (Lauren B. Martin) is a nurse stuck between Bill and Tony; starting July 9. Jonathan (Tom Pelphrey) is Reva's real son. The actor John Driscoll is in as a mystery man.

One Life To Live Another Santi family member comes to town. Look for Angelina (Saundra Santiago) in early August.

NEWS & RUMORS

It's the time for family troubles. Aiden Turner (Aidan from All My Children) had to take time off to attend to a family emergency back home in England recently. Now it looks like David Tom (Paul on One Life to Live) will be out for a month due to a personal problem. His role will temporarily be recast.

Taking time off for another reason is Robert Newman (Josh from Guiding Light). He'll be starring in Nine at the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, Massachusetts. The show opens August 24 and ends September 12. He promises he will be back to the show. Look for Josh to be out approximately from mid-August to mid-October.

It's also the time for maternity leave. As reported last week both Terri Colombino (Katie from As the World Turns) and Robin Christopher (Skye on General Hospital) are off. This week another leave is making headlines: Justin and Lindsay Hartley (Fox and Theresa of Passions) are taking a joint paternity/maternity leave. Rather than putting their storyline on the back burner for the summer, both roles will be temporarily recast. Nick Stabile and Priscilla Garita have been slated to take over on August 30.

I found this teaser buried in Soap Opera Weekly. Young & the Restless is very close to casting a "name" in a major new role with Jack and Jill. I'll keep you posted...

I didn't want to give this away, but I feel I have to for all the All My Children/One Life to Live fans. Now that Blair (Kassie DePaiva) [OLTL] knows the truth about Ace, she can't resist spilling the beans to Kevin (Dan Gauthier) that neither he nor Todd (Trevor St. John) is the father. Dare we dream that Bianca (Eden Riegel) [AMC] will get Miranda and Babe and JR (Alexa Havins and Jacob Young) will get their son back? Look for something huge to happen later this month. Stay tuned...

All My Children Greenlee and Ryan fight their mutual attraction. JR furthers his scheme against Babe.

As the World Turns Kim and Susan almost come to blows. Emily and Chris share a moment. Cabot goes missing again.

Days of Our Lives Sami walks in on Lucas and Manda. Phillip and Belle question Jan. A mysterious stranger arrives in Salem.

General Hospital Jason catches Sam in another lie. Tracy schemes to destroy Courtney. Family and friends gather for a tribute to Lila.

Guiding Light Alex gives the performance of a lifetime and sets up someone as the fall guy.

One Life to Live Kevin tosses Kelly out of the mansion. Kelly and Dorian beg Blair to keep their secret. Jessica and Tico share a bed.

Passions Miguel convinces Charity not to leave town. An unexpected twist develops between Katherine, Martin and Alistair. Luis aids an emotional Sheridan through horrible memories.

Young & the Restless Phyllis is overcome with joy when Daniel shows up on her doorstep. Nikki has a flashback during a visit to the rec center.
