THE BEST AND WORST OF 2004, PART 1

The storylines that had everyone talking for better -- or worse -- this year are:

All My Children

BEST: The baby-switch. Despite some very huge, gaping lows to this story, it has had even casual viewers asking for the last nine months, "When will Bianca get her baby back?"

WORST: La Showgirl Kane. In the middle of Bianca's toughest time, Erica bolts for Vegas to be a showgirl. WHAT? Fans were supposed to believe that she would abandon her daughter, the one constant in her life, during her worst crisis. Newsflash: They didn't.

As the World Turns

BEST: Lusty. This pairing, Lucy and Dusty, set everyone ablaze. They were put through test after test: mobsters, bullets, even an attempt at being buried alive, but the test that counts the most: fans. They're still praising this pair.

WORST: Doc. What was it about this guy that he single-handedly had women falling over him? Frankly, no one knows. And after all was said and done, everyone was in tatters. Margo and Tom, Jessica and Ben and Margo and Jessica.

Bold & the Beautiful

BEST: Those feuding Forresters. Ridge and Thorne at each other's throats is simply divine. Mommy and Daddy may love Ridge but Thorne is not one to stay in the background. Enter Spectra and now who do you love?

WORST: Felicia's return. Maybe if her return had lasted longer, it would have been wonderful but..it was not to be. As it was, her cancer battle was brief and she was only able to squeeze out a few designs. Then she was gone, leaving many to ask, "Why bring her back?"

Days of Our Lives

BEST: The Big Reveal episode. If you missed it, you missed a doozy. There was Tony in his hospital bed, when along comes a hand and injects a lethal dose into his IV. The camera pans upwards to...Marlena, as she laughs maniacally and taunts him of his upcoming excruciating death.

WORST: "Cagey" Jan. When Shawn and Belle separate, what to do with Shawn? Hmm, let's stick him in a cage all summer and have no one look for him. When he escapes, how about a motorcycle accident for a wonderful dose of amnesia. And why not throw in the obligatory psycho to hold him hostage? That's sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats, not to mention happy. WRONG!

Brought to by all the fans who've voiced your opinions all year long. Look for Part 2 next week.
