All My Children Simone (Terri Ivens) returns in mid-to-late January. The actress is returning to work from her maternity leave.

As the World Turns Casey will be played by Zach Roerig beginning January 18. Roerig takes over the role from Peter Vack Brown. Keith (Kin Shriner) begins February 2. Celia, (Alyssa Diaz) Rafael's sister, starts February 9.

Days of Our Lives Access Hollywood correspondent Shaun Robinson plays a wedding planner December 27.

Guiding Light The winner of Guiding Light's Watch and Win summer contest on KTVT-TV in Dallas, Rhonda Addison, airs as an extra on December 30. Mrs. Chitwood, (Melissa Hurst) is back December 30 as well.

OUT

General Hospital The shows begin to air from the one month that Maurice Benard took off for paternity leave. GH is promising fans won't notice that Sonny is gone, so watch for yourself and see if it's true...

NEWS & RUMORS

Updates! On Guiding Light, Vanessa's (Maeve Kinkead) return has been postponed, but the show and the actress are working hard to make it work out. At As the World Turns, the role of Lucy is definitely being recast because as head writer Hogan Sheffer says, "It's a valuable character to us...She is the anchor; the one character that humanizes Craig above all others." He also promises that James (Anthony Herrera) will be "in something" next year. And at General Hospital, they've decided to make Maria a bit older, meaning Gladise Jimenez is out and Mercedes Colon is in. Colon begins December 30.

Just how long does it take to make the beautiful Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe, Days of Our Lives) look like Swamp Thing? A grueling 40 minutes. "...The more everything starts to dry, the tighter it gets. Plus the spirit gum they use to glue it down and the stuff they use to take it off are pretty harsh on my skin," she says.

Rodney Van Johnson (TC, Passions) and wife Carmen Obando are expecting their second boy on April 27.

THE BEST AND WORST OF 2004, PART 2

General Hospital

BEST: The talented cast. From the vets to the newcomers, they're all fantastic! The writers need to remember this though, in relation to their underused vets -- Tony Geary and Jackie Zeman especially.

WORST: Love is pain. Haven't Emily and Nikolas been through enough? Apparently not, thinks Mary. She finds him on a riverbank, with amnesia and brainwashes him. Then Connor comes in looking like Nik -- wait, Mary burned his photos so Nik wouldn't figure out that he wasn't Connor -- wait, is anyone else fed up? YES! And that's only a fraction of what they've been through this year.

Guiding Light

BEST: Phillip. Though it was sad to see him go, who killed him kept us on pins and needles.

WORST: More amnesia. Michelle comes out of an explosion believing herself to be a...uh, party girl. Then she took on another identity -- Tony's "sister". Yikes! And more being held captive in a cage. This time, Holly, thanks to Sebastian. Enough already!

One Life to Live

BEST: Viki's heart surgery. In a year where newcomers were forced down on our throats, it was nice to revisit some old ties and see the old faces.

WORST: Big surprise here: The Santis. This story was a clunker right from the start. Why take a barely there family and destroy it? Carlotta is barely around, Cristian was dead, their father was long dead, all that remained was Antonio. Throw in a bunch of background Santi players that weren't around long enough to learn their names, cram two major Santis down our throats from June to November and stir to get a story everyone loathed. It was so bad it forced the show to find a new head writer.

Passions

BEST: The diverse cast. Every color of the rainbow is represented here, and the show continues to add more, most recently Daphnee Duplaix Samuel. This show looks like a real city.

WORST: Theresa, the blond. How does donning a blond wig make you unrecognizable? Hello?! It looks like Theresa to me -- and everyone else with half a clue!

Young & the Restless

BEST: Ashley's bruised fanny. First Victor kicked Ashley to the curb. Then Brad did the same thing. Makes my fanny hurt in sympathy -- well, nah, maybe not.

WORST: The hair straightening orchid makes everyone's list. For good, obvious reasons. If you're wondering what we're talking about, don't.
