Kristian Joy Alfonso was born
September 5 in Brockton, Massachusetts -- a Boston suburb. Striking, even as a
baby, strangers often stared. As a girl she developed a passion for ice
skating and dance. At 13, she won a gold medal in figure skating at the Junior
Olympics. She was on her way to the upcoming Olympic games until a tobogganing
accident cut the dream short; she suffered a severe multiple fracture in her
landing leg.
Luckily before the accident young
Kristian had been approached by the Wilhelmina modeling agency. She soon
signed a contract and was on the covers of Vogue and Bazaar, and
she was just 15! At 16, she starred opposite Rock Hudson in The Starmaker.
She was asked at this point to audition for the role of Hope Williams on Days
of Our Lives. Kristian wasn't prepared to leave home yet -- and was
terrified of California earthquakes -- so she turned down the offer. In 1983,
she was offered the role again and this time she didn't hesitate. While at the
audition, she tripped and fell down the staircase at Horton House. Kristian
was afraid she had blown it. But she should've realized that the role was made
for her. She won the role and became an immediate fan favorite.
In 1987, after four years Kristian
decided to take a break from Days and turned up on Falcon Crest,
Full House and Who's The Boss?, among others. In 1990, Days producers
asked her back for 13 weeks; she agreed. She left in October 1990 to give
birth to son Gino. During this time she appeared most notably on Melrose
Place. But in 1994, returned to Days to play three characters at
once! Kristian has remained there ever since.
On October 6, 2001, Kristian married
Danny Daggenhurt, with which she shares three children, Gino, Spartan and
Jack.
