NEWS & RUMORS

Congratulations to Guiding Light! It's the only soap to be up for a Writers Guild of America Award. Every soap was asked to submit three scripts for consideration.

One Life to Live has hired two consultants, Barbara Esensten and James Harmon Brown to aid Dena Higley in shaping story ideas and to offer her guidance. Keep in mind, Higley doesn't have a lot of experience as a head writer.

Life imitates art, as the saying goes. And in this case, it's true. Recently an All My Children script called for Justin Bruening (Jamie) to propose to on-screen -- and real-life -- love interest, Alexa Havins (Babe), but the proposal was real. Bruening even went so far as to enlist the help of director Angela Tessinari and executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers.

JED ALLAN's (Edward Quartermaine, General Hospital) BIO (jedallan.com)

Jed has been acting for 50 years. He has appeared, most notably, on CSI: Miami, Beverly Hills 90210, Walker, Texas Ranger, Six Feet Under and Lassie. He has also appeared on other daytime soaps, Port Charles, Santa Barbara and Days of Our Lives.

Jed's father was a professional musician, so everyone figured Jed would follow in his footsteps. Instead, he fell in love with acting. He studied theater in Washington in 1958. He returned to New York to appear on Broadway.

In his free time, he enjoys golf, sailing, traveling and playing the piano and banjo. He currently resides in L.A. with his three sons Mitch, Dean and Rick. He was born March 1 in New York City.
