Editor's Note

As I'm writing this, it's Thursday afternoon and there are no soaps on :-(

Anyway, I'm sure you've all heard by now that Ruth Warrick died this past weekend. There's news of another recent death as well; Candice Daly from The Young & the Restless. My condolences to their families and fans.

? ? ? ?  INS

Guiding Light Sharon (Gayton Scott) appears January 18.

One Life to Live Agent Morrow (William Parry) is an FBI agent investigating Ace's kidnapping on January 25. Frank (Terence Patrick Schappert), the construction worker, meets up with Margaret January 21.

Passions Tina (Cristi Ellen Harris) is Alistair's assistant continuing January 21.

Young & the Restless Larry (David Shark Fralick) resurfaces later this month. Fuzzy (Dylan Kenin) is in January 25. Detective Lacerra (Stephen Liska) doesn't bring good news on January 24. The ghostly Elias (Darrell Vanterpool) appears January 27.

OUT

As the World Turns AJ Lamas' Rafael is out after almost three months. The show wants to take the character "in a different direction." Michael Cardelle will take over the role February 25.

NEWS & RUMORS

All My Children's Ruth Warrick (Phoebe Wallingford), 88, died Saturday, January 15 at 12:15 am in her Manhattan home. The cause is due to complications from pneumonia. Her last appearance was, fittingly, January 5, 2005, the episode celebrating the show's 35th anniversary. A private ceremony will be held in New York on January 22 with a public service pending. Donations can be made to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, City Harvest or Gilda's Club.

Former Young & the Restless star Candice Daly (Vernoica Landers), 41, died December 14 after several problems related to drug and alcohol abuse, says the Globe tabloid magazine. Such a shame, she was a beautiful girl. Candice left the soap in 2000.

Finola Hughes (Anna, All My Children/General Hospital) and husband Russell Young have adopted a baby boy they named Cash.

Hmm, in real life Tari Signor (Margaret, One Life to Live) is pregnant and due March 13. There hasn't been any confirmation on whether the pregnancy will be written into the show, though the character is actively trying to get pregnant.

Over at Guiding Light, there have been rumors swirling since Grant Aleksander (Phillip) left, that he was going to return, unfortunately, they're not true. If -- big if -- Phillip returns, it won't be Aleksander.

GEORGE ALVAREZ' (Father Ray Santos, Guiding Light) BIO

Cuban-born George Alvarez received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Parsons School of Design. After graduation he began working as a bartender at Studio 54, where he developed an interest in acting. George was "discovered" at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York during a casting call.

Prior to landing the role of Ray Santos in August 1999 on Guiding Light, he worked on General Hospital and The Bold & the Beautiful. In primetime he had worked on NYPD Blue and Beverly Hills 90210.
