Editor's Note

Well, it seems that All My Children is finished losing long-time characters. Unfortunately, General Hospital and One Life to Live have caught the disease. ABC needs to invest in some glue ;-)

? ? ? ?  INS

All My Children Diana Cole (Kelli Giddish) is Krystal's cellmate, starting March 15. Sam, (Bobby Sleggert) 15, returns from Europe March 21.

Days of Our Lives Last week came news that Dan Wells would be playing a "mystery character." We now know the character's name -- Sami. For more details, check out the "News & Rumors" section.

Guiding Light It worked out -- Vanessa (Maeve Kinkead) returns April 25. Webster (Patch Darragh) holds the key to Harley's future March 4.

One Life to Live Rachel (Ellen Bethea) returns next month for Nora's wedding.

OUTS

General Hospital Ned (Wally Kurth) drops to recurring status after 14 years.

Guiding Light Tony (Stephen Martines) will eventually be gone. Apparently Martines had asked to be let out of his contract.

One Life to Live For sure, Jen (Jessica Morris) will exit in May. The soap and Phil Carey (Asa) are still trying to reach an agreement.

NEWS & RUMORS

Alison Sweeney (Sami, Days of Our Lives) and husband David Sanov welcomed their first child, Benjamin Edward into the world February 25. Currently, Alison is on a three-month maternity leave. For some scenes that haven't been pre-taped, Alison's replacement is a man (Dan Wells) -- Sami is going undercover as a man.

Tamara Braun (Carly, General Hospital) has made up her mind: She's leaving after four years and a Daytime Emmy nomination. Most likely, look for Carly in a "presumed dead" story until GH finds a replacement.

Linda Dano returns to Daytime! To Guiding Light, as a matter of fact -- as Lena, who'll cross paths with Harley. The role will be short-term because Linda is starring in Mame at the Bucks County Playhouse this summer.

SPOTLIGHT ON...Darlene Conley (Sally Spectra, Bold & the Beautiful)

Two-time Emmy nominee Darlene has played flamboyant Sally Spectra since December 1998. "Sally" is the only soap opera character on display at Madame Tussaud's wax figures galleries in Amsterdam and Las Vegas.

The Irish-German Darlene was raised in Chicago and was discovered at age 15 by Broadway impresario Jed Harris who cast her in The Heiress. After graduation, she toured with classical theater companies full-time. She then turned to Shakespearean roles on Broadway.

She also caught the attention of Alfred Hitchcock and was cast in The Birds, her first feature film role. Darlene has also appeared in The Valley of the Dolls, Lady Sings The Blues and Tough Guys.

Darlene then made the leap onto television, appearing in several primetime and mini-series roles. When she turned her attention to daytime, she truly found her niche. She's appeared in various roles: Rose DeVille (Young & the Restless), Edith Baker (Days of Our Lives) and Trixie Monahan (General Hospital). Darlene feels that daytime TV is "really the best medium today for women at a certain age to do something really flashy..."

Darlene has also conquered the music industry. She's released a single in Europe and has performed concerts in Holland and Finland. Currently, she is single with a son and two stepsons. She was injured last summer after an accidental fall in a parking lot.
