SPOTLIGHT ON...Martha Byrne (Lily
Snyder, As the World Turns) marthabyrne.net
Martha began playing Lily in 1985.
She returned to the role in 1993. In 2000, the character's identical twin,
Rose D'Angelo was introduced. For three years, Martha played both roles.
Her career began at age 10 playing in
the Broadway production of Annie that lasted two years. She then
appeared in The Eyes of the Amaryllis and Anna to the Infinite Power.
More TV and film roles followed until she landed on As the World Turns
in 1985. After four years she left to pursue other opportunities. At this time
she was selected by Bob Hope as one of America's Top Ten Stars of the
Future.
Eventually Martha ended back on As
the World Turns and has been a significant presence ever since. She has
since starred in Sliding Home, where some of her music was featured
prominently. That led her to release and co-produce a self-titled album, Martha
Byrne. Two more songs were featured in Calista Flockhart's Jane Doe.
Another original Martha song has appeared in Beggar & Choosers, a
film in which she also appears.
Martha is married to a retired NYPD
Sergeant. She has two children. She is a proud fundraiser for St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital. As well, Martha does fund-raising for the Annual
Daytime Television Hospital Benefit, an effort which she us actually the
chairperson, since 1993.
