NEWS & RUMORS

April.
After last week's announcement that
David Andrew Macdonald (Edmund) has been let go at Guiding Light, it
got me wondering how many stars the show has lost since they announced their
budget cuts last year. The answer is eleven plus Mickey Dwyer-Dobbin,
executive in charge of production for Procter & Gamble. These eleven stars
aren't bit players either, they're popular, long-standing characters: Phillip
(Grant Aleksander), Cassie (Laura Wright), Danny (Paul Anthony Stewart),
Michelle (Nancy St. Alban), Bill (Daniel Cosgrove), Edmund (David Andrew
Macdonald), Holly (Maureen Garrett), Alexandra (Marj Dusay), Rick (Michael
O'Leary), Beth (Beth Chamberlain) and Ross (Jerry verDorn). Wow! The rumors
continue to circulate (these are long-standing rumors by the way) that Guiding
Light could soon be cancelled. The more pertinent questions are can a show
survive with so few long-running characters remaining and how many more will
get the axe?
