Editor's Note

There's so much to get to this week, we're just going to dive in.

     INS

Days of Our Lives Rory (Christie Lynn Smith) is an old girlfriend of Austin's, seen December 14.

General Hospital Dr. Kelly Lee (Gwendoline Yeo) will star in scenes with Jax, Courtney and Nikolas starting January 3.

Guiding Light Vanessa (Maeve Kinkead) heads home this December 16.

One Life to Live Ellen Cochran Foley (Linda Cook) buries her sister Margaret and daughter Ginger December 13. Vinnie (Jack Gilpin) will recur as Niki's lawyer, starting December 12.

Passions Mother Superior (Julia Duffy) is back December 22. Two carolers (Christina Saffran and Emma Ashford, real-life wife and daughter of Matthew Ashford -- Days' Jack) appear December 23 and 26.

Young & the Restless Ali (Agina Alvarez), Cassie's friend, returns December 23.

OUTS

General Hospital Though Diego (Ignacio Serricchio) heads to prison December 19, a GH spokesperson assures that Diego will be back.

Guiding Light Lizzie will be recast next month; Crystal Hunt has decided not to renew her contract.

NEWS & RUMORS

Baby news -- McKenzie Westmore (Sheridan, Passions) and husband, producer/musician Seven, are expecting their first child, a baby boy in late May. The pregnancy has been full of complications but so far things are going well. Meanwhile, Renee Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline, One Life to Live) has suffered a miscarriage. Unfortunately, it's too late for Goldsberry to remain in her starring role as Nettie in the Broadway musical of The Color Purple. Sad news all around for Renee.

Ronn Moss' (Ridge, Bold & the Beautiful) has completed his promotional tour for his new CD, Uncovered. He will return December 29 via a call home and will be back in L.A. January 5.

In an extremely low-key exit, Adrianne Leon has taken over the role of Colleen on Young & the Restless. Meanwhile her role of Brook Lynn on General Hospital hasn't even been completed yet. The significance here is ABC hasn't issued a statement about Leon's exit from GH.

Though some soap publications have been publishing reports that Lauren Woodland (Brittany, Y&R) has scored the role of Courtney on GH, Woodland insists she hasn't received the offer yet. She confirms that the show is indeed considering her, but it's not official yet. The actress is even getting calls of congratulations from former castmates. Perhaps a bit premature...

If you're the biggest fan of All My Children, One Life to Live or General Hospital, submit a photo and a 50-word paragraph stating why you are the show's biggest fan to ABC and you could land a walk-on appearance on your fave soap as ABC does Fan February for the fourth time. If you score the role on AMC, you'll attend an Erica Kane ball, on OLTL, you'll witness a stunning proposal or on GH, you'll be a part of the action during a health scare.

In other ABC news, sometime next year, Michael Cambias (William de Vry) will head back to Pine Valley (All My Children). The news is being confirmed on the actor's website, but not by the network...One Live to Live's Tuc Watkins (David) is allegedly unhappy about his character's direction and has been telling the media he may opt not to renew when his contract expires next year.

SPOTLIGHT ON...Kassie DePaiva (Blair Cramer, One Life to Live) www.kassiedepaiva.com

Kassie has played the trouble-making Ms. Cramer since December 1993. Her role on One Life to Live marked her return to daytime TV; she previously played Chelsea Reardon on Guiding Light from 1986 to 1991.

Born and raised in Kentucky with her two older brothers and a younger sister, Kassie worked at Nashville's Opryland as a singer until age eighteen. She then debuted as a soloist at Grand Ole Opry performing two songs. It was during her stint at Opryland that Kassie realized she wanted to entertain for a living. She enrolled at Indiana University, then to the University of California at Los Angeles to study theater. While at UCLA she joined the four-part harmony band, Newport, who performed in L.A., San Diego and Las Vegas. Kassie had the opportunity to travel with the USO on its Orient tour of Japan, Korea and Okinawa which prompted her to make the tough decision to drop out of school.

Shortly after the USO tour, Kassie began singing back-up for soul singer Bobby Womack during two of his U.S. tours and a tour of Great Britain. She then landed her first pro acting role as Bobbie Jo in the feature film Evil Dead II.

During her hiatus from daytime, she guest-starred on Melrose Place, Baywatch and Timetrax. In 2000, she released her first CD, Naked, through her website, www.kassiedepaiva.com. Her latest CD, No Regrets, is also available at her website or at www.abc.com, in the OLTL store.

Kassie is married to former OLTL co-star James DePaiva (Max Holden). She gave birth to son James Quentin in May 1997.
