================================================================= ================================================================= The Bitterroot News! An Email E-zine discussing comments and issues about the Bitterroot Trail Novel Mid June, 2007 Issue #1 ================================================================= ================================================================= In this issue:
***** Blatant Self Advertisement ***** Join Bob Bainbridge! Ride again the dangerous and mountainous branches of the Bitterroot Trail with this 1935 Classic Western! After 72 years available only in rare book stores, you can now follow the crusades of Bob Bainbridge during the Idaho gold strike of the 1860's. Get your copy today. Under $10 at your favorite E-Book retailer, August 17, 2007. ================================================================= Publication release date Many of you may have signed up while I was still putting the finishing touches on our Web Pages. I received word from Uncial that the release date had slipped to the 17th. In the publishing world a slip of a mere day is hardly worth mentioning. However, to the loyal readers, it might mean a big difference. If you have the old date marked, you need to fix it. The official release is now August 17th, 2007. ================================================================= E-Book Retailers Trying to find E-Book retailers on the Internet, is a lot like pulling your own teeth at the moment. The publishing industry is in the middle of a financial knockdown and consolidation, most small presses have moved to E-Books, and the self publication industry has become almost entirely E- Book oriented. I am personally pulling to create new terms for each of the different branches, which would avoid a lot of the confusion. Uncial, our publisher, is a small press house. They do E-books, print on demand, and hard bound publication. I did not want to get into the pitfalls of self publication and choosing a small press with a good track record was paramount. One of the nice features of Uncial is their connections with both Electronic Publishing Internet Connection (EPIC) which is a clearing house organization be- tween authors, reviewers, publishers, and E-book retailers, and their own list of E-Book retailers. A lot of people are going to ask why can't I just get it at Powell's or Amazon or Barnes and Nobel (BN)? The truth is you can get from Powell's or Amazon by special order. BN no longer affiliates with E-book publishing. When the demand for the book is enough to move the book to solid print, both Amazon and Powell's will be asking to carry it. For those of you who really want a printed version to read, do what I did for a few reviewers, take the pdf file to Staples, they put a very nice plastic cover over acid free paper and wire wound the whole thing for about $8. Luckily for all of us, there is a huge extensive list of e-book retailers at EPIC, http://www.epicauthors.com/links.html be sure and check out EPIC's own E-Book store with more entries than a library as well as the list of E-Book Retailers. And of course, you can buy direct from the publisher at Uncial http://www.uncialpress.com/ ================================================================= Current events along the Bitterroot Trail Remember, the real Bitterroot Trail ran along the spine of the Bitterroots, with lots and lots of branch trails we have given other names too. I am always on the lookout for news along any of these branches to pass along to you the readers. If you have something you would like to pass along about what's happening, send me an email using the link at the bottom of the newsletter. One of the side branches of the Bitterroot Trail is the trail from Stanley to Ketchum. In case you are wondering, there is hardly any phone service and no cell phone service. This is because the mountain peaks are mostly in the 10,000 foot to 11,000 foot range of elevation. Reliable com- munications is provided by Amateur Radio clubs. The type of radio they use for communicating back and forth is called a repeater ... normally put up on the tallest mountain they can get access too during the summer.. This article is sent in by our friend Joe Yelda, a freelance author, a radio amateur, and an ultra marathon enthusiast. The Baldy repeater got its first real communications test Saturday June 2nd, 2007, provid-================================================================= Letters and comments People!! Its issue #1!
