Subject: GirlsNQueers First - July12, 2006

After spending the day screaming (or singing if it's like previous times) my guts out to protest the amendment to ban queer marriage (at The Statehouse starting at 8 AM tomorrow), I'll be performing Wednesday night at The Cantab. Stop by if you like! Also don't forget about the great, new, live, queer music event "Bent" on Thursdays, Downstairs at The Middle East. This Thursday will be the last time to take advantage of the admission discount you can receive by downloading and then presenting at the door the flyer at http://users.rcn.com/ngender/bent.jpg.

Ren Jender is a writer/performer who for eight and a half years was the host and founder of The Amazon Slam, a Boston-based all-woman poetry slam that won the "Best Poll" of The Boston Phoenix from 1998-2002 and was named "Best of Boston" in Boston Magazine in 1999. Her work has appeared in Bitch Magazine, Bay Windows and Spare Change. She has been profiled in The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The Boston Metro, The Boston Phoenix and Curve. She currently hosts, curates and performs in the occasional spoken-word series "GirlsNQueers First" and was a co-curator/producer of the Lisa King Memorial show that happened at the Cantab on May 28th.

Margaret Caruso (guitar accompanist) is a singer-songwriter who is an alumna of The Berklee School of Music. In November of this past year The New York Times listed her as someone to watch on the Boston music scene. Her latest CD Joy Machine has gotten airplay on WBCN, college radio and Radio Queer America.
