Bombarding
Gaza in the abscence of anti-rocket system protecting people in
Sderot. [1] JERUSALEM POST- Peretz: limited operations [i.e.:
bombardments] to continue in the coming days [2] GHASSAN BANOURA-
IMEMC - in Beit Hanoun village one killed, evacuating the injured
with great difficulty due to the continued shelling. [3] B`TSELEM to
Israeli Defense Minister: the government cannot compensate for its
failure to protect residents of Sderot by intentionally causing
suffering in Gaza. |

Gaza: Who`s
fighting whom? Khaled Abu Toameh - Jerusalem Post - Some
Hamas and Fatah operatives in the Gaza Strip have accused followers
of PA National Security Adviser Muhammad Dahlan of instigating the
latest cycle of violence. They claimed that Dahlan`s supporters in
Fatah and some of the PA security forces were trying to drag Hamas
into an all-out confrontation with the help of the US and
Israel. |

Gaza Gush
Shalom - Haaretz - We have isolated Gaza. We have starved Gaza. We
have expropriated ... |

SOS from
Palestine Khaled Amayreh - Al-Ahram - The worst incident in
the latest round of infighting occurred Tuesday morning when
anonymous gunmen attacked a Presidential Guard vehicle carrying a
dozen Fatah security personnel near the Mintar border crossing with
Israel. Eight people were killed. Nearby Israeli soldiers opened
fire on two gunmen as they were fleeing the scene, killing one and
injuring the other. Hamas denied any link with the attack and
accused the Israeli army of being responsible. Fatah blamed the
ambush on Hamas. |

Highway to
hell B. Michael - Ynet - (...) a checkpoint has been set up
on the "Fabric of Life" road. A long row of cars are lined up.
There`s a long line beyond the checkpoint as well. This is the
unique military interpretation of the judge`s words on "free and
uninterrupted movement." And as is customary on the "Fabric of Life"
road, people are also "detained for questioning". It’s a type of
local punishment, the fate of Palestinians who soldiers take a
disliking to. |

Out of bounds
Lily Galili - Haaretz - Despite the blue Israeli identity
cards held by residents of Shuafat Refugee Camp [which was
unilaterally annexed to Jerusalem in 1967 ed.], the Israeli
authorities have now decided that they are not in fact
Jerusalemites. |

Israeli
professors visit U.K., trying to avert academic boycott
Assaf Uni/ Charlotte Hall - Haaretz - A growing wave of
British initiatives to boycott Israel includes earlier efforts for
an academic boycott; last month`s decision by Britain`s National
Union of Journalists to boycott Israeli products; the Anglican
Church`s decision to divest from companies doing business with the
Israel Defense Forces; a demand for Israel`s expulsion from the
World Medical Association by 130 British doctors; and boycott calls
by leading British architects. Israeli academics are, however,
specially concerned by the "silent" boycott phenomenon. |

Who’s normal
here? The IDF was quick to investigate the incident where IDF
soldiers recently attacked protestors on Mount Hebron. There was a
indeed a problem: the fact that the event was caught on camera and
aired in news broadcasts. The courageous company commander suddenly
looked more like a cruel militarist. He forgot to wait for the media
to leave (closed military zone, state security, you know). This was
indeed a professional hitch. |

Desert
Generation - exhibition by Israeli and Palestinian Artists
IPCRI - On Tuesday, June 5, 2007, the 40th anniversary of
the 1967 War, Israeli and Palestinian artists who oppose the
occupation and continue to call for its immediate and peaceful end,
will open a joint exhibition at the Artists House, Jerusalem, which
will two weeks later move the Kibbutz Gallery in Tel Aviv. The
hundreds of images in the exhibition represent a generation of
Israeli and Palestinian artists doomed to waste their best years in
the desert of the occupation. [As the "Desert Generation" in the
Bible had to spend forty years wandering the desert, and did not
live to see the Promised Land. A.K.] |

Canadian
bookstore chain boycotted for supporting IDF soldiers Wendy
Alnuweiri/Itamar Eichner - CAIA/Y-Net - On Saturday, May 12th, the
Boycott Israeli Apartheid Campaign officially launched a boycott
against Chapters and Indigo Bookstores. Heather Reisman and Gerry
Schwartz - majority owners of Chapters and Indigo bookstores - are
the founders of the "Heseg Foundation for Lone Soldiers," which
provides scholarships and other financial support to soldiers in the
Israeli Military on the basis of need and military `achievement`.
