Subject: [TOI-Billboard] Surfing to Gaza - August25, 2007

Surfing to Gaza

In an army action
This week,
Two boys,
Aged 9 and 11,
Were shot dead.

The Minister of Defense,
Ehud Barak,
Leader of the Labor Party,
Did not even apologize
Or express regret.

Silence is admission:
This is now the policy.

Here follow the August 25, 2007, press picks from different sources - posted by TOI-staff on Occupation Magazine

Senior former US officials and experts: talk to Hamas and Hizbullah
"Foreign Policy" Magazine/The Center for American Progress - a large majority, among 108 former senior US officials and foreign policy experts polled, expressed themselves in favour of either "selectively engaging with moderates" in Hamas and Hizbullah or of dealing with governments in which these organizations are involved "as with any other government of a foreign sovereign state".

A Boycott Of Israel: Something Has Changed
John Pilger - Znet Daily Comments - And yet, what Nelson Mandela has called "the greatest moral issue of the age" refuses to be buried in the dust. (...) these were once distant voices. That such grave discussion of a boycott has "gone global" was unforeseen in official Israel, long comforted by its seemingly untouchable myths and great power sponsorship, and confident that the mere threat of anti-Semitism would ensure silence.

Palestinian Under-19 football team refused entry to the UK,

 Arabs here to stay
Ali Haider - Ynet - Before Avigdor Lieberman joined the government, all those concerned about democracy warned against the possibility that he would make use of his status to implement his racist plans to disengage from Wadi Ara and hand it over to the Palestinian Authority.  Women`s Organization for Political Prisoners Newsletter July 2007
WOFPP - The windows in the cells still cannot be opened because they remain covered with metal sheets. The heat and the lack of air in the cells are unbearable. The prison authorities do not supply any fans or ventilators. The prisoners buy fans in the canteen, but many fans are out of order after a short period. As a result, there are cells without any fans at all. WOFPP applied to ACRI (Association for Citizens` Rights in Israel) to submit an appeal against the prison authorities, demanding to remove the permanent window coverings.

 Collateral Damage
Joanna Chen - Newsweek - Gravely injured in an Israeli missile attack, a 5-year-old Palestinian girl is at the center of a fight over whether Israel should continue to provide treatment. A court decision in favor of Mariya Aman could set a precedent and trigger other court appeals from Palestinians injured by similar acts of the Israeli military.
