Jabri Family`s first olive harvest in seven years
ISM - The Jabri family farm, situated in a corridor between two illegal
Israeli settlements near Hebron, has been subject to a history of settler
violence, and this is the first time in seven years that bthey were able - with
the help of Israeli and international activists - to carry out the harvest,
undeterred by the stone-throwing of settler youths.

`Extremism on both sides` vs `Flawed Symmetry`
Seth Freedman/Ben White - The Guardian - On the pages of this
British paper, the debate continues to rage on the cancelled OneVoice concerts,
between people who all declare their opposition to the occupation - with Seth
Freedman asserting that "extremist elements from both sides of the conflict have
sabotaged peace concerts in Jericho and Tel Aviv" and Ben White rebutting that
"`moderate` politics assumes equality between occupier and occupied".

About 100 women political prisoners - WOFPP Report, Oct.
2007
WOFPP - The Tel-Aviv based Women`s Organization for Political
Prisoners continues its monitoring and reporting of the situation of Palestinian
women held in Israeli prisons, with special attention to events which make
prison life even more unpleasant, such as finding a dead cockroach in your bread
or being beaten up by guards when shouting to demand attention for the plight of
an ill fellow-prisoner.

Revisiting the partition of Palestine
Henry Lowi -
Redress - This past summer, I read several newspaper articles on the 60th
anniversary of the partition of British colonial India into independent India
and Pakistan. Much was made of the mayhem, the chaos and the deaths that
occurred 60 years ago on the Indian subcontinent. In numerous in-depth pieces,
the distinction was drawn between the “secular” republic of India and the
“Muslim” republic of Pakistan. Comparisons were made of subsequent developments
in the spheres of economic growth, political democracy, human rights and
international relations. The questions were raised: was partition justified?
What other options were there? How has partition played out? This coverage has
provided valuable food for thought, about postwar decolonization, its successes
and failures.

Why failure is not an option at Annapolis
David
Kimche - Jerusalem Post - "October 2009: After the failure of the Annapolis
conference two years ago, the two-state solution has finally been buried. The
Palestinian Authority has disbanded itself, proclaiming that the official policy
of the Palestinians will henceforth be a one-state solution, a democratic state
with the right to vote for all its citizens over the age of 18. `The battle of
the womb,` they call it. (...)"

Speak out, to make Annapolis a success
Debra DeLee
- The Jewish Week - When Israel faces military threats, diplomatic threats or
public-relations embarassments, we American Jews lobby, we demonstrate, we
mobilize, we make our voices heard in the media, we organize emergency missions
to Israel. But when it comes to supporting the efforts of Israel’s
democratically elected government to start a process that might, hopefully, end
up resolving Israel’s conflict with the Palestinians - under the supportive
umbrella of the international community and the League of Arab States - most
American Jewish groups are silent.

End olive harvest attacks
Yehuda Litani - Y-net -
"A Palestinian farmer in Tal village was stoned by settlers while harvesting
olives. He was treated at the site and evacuated to hospital. The Rabbis for
Human Rights lodged a complaint." This laconic report is just the opening shot
of another season of trouble at West Bank olive groves.

Associated Press - At Herzliya, near Tel Aviv, eight-time
surfing champion Kelly Slater, an American of Syrian descent, was seen helping a

Men in a trap
Lily Galili - Haaretz - Were it not
a matter of human lives, it would be funny to hear the Israeli claim that "Abu
Mazen cannot provide the goods". Olmert, on his way to Annapolis, has an
impressive parliamentary majority, but he lacks the moral legitimacy to actually
implement any agreement achieved.
