the updating on Saturdays, but OM is updated daily, each day of the

written
especially for Occupation Magazine:
Where are the suicide bombers?
Amira
Hass - It is an accepted cliche among some so-called radicals that army attacks
in which Palestinian civilians are harmed – which are routine occurrences that
pass below the Israeli radar – always create “the next suicide bomber”. The
truth is that nearly every Palestinian has many reasons to be fed up with life
to the point of suicide and thoughts of revenge, and those thoughts are not
linked only to military attacks. Even without killing, the Israeli occupation
regime kills – hope, plans, relationships, ways of life. [Transl. by G. Malent]

Dr. Sarraj, meeting with a group of Israeli peace
activists
Gush Shalom - Local water is undrinkable. Israel does not
let in bottled water. Nor does Israel allow the importation of water pumps.
(...) The severely sick cannot reach a hospital - neither in Israel, nor in
Egypt or Jordan. The few permits issued are often delivered after a fatal delay
(...) Palestinians who have contracts to work abroad are not allowed to leave.
Some Palestinians were allowed to leave through Israel on the way to Egypt, but
were not allowed in by the Egyptian authorities and returned to Gaza. (...)
Prices in the Gaza strip have risen sky-high - fivefold and even tenfold. Life
is now more expensive in Gaza than in Tel-Aviv.

Gaza: another day of routine
bloodshed
Ma`an News Agency - Gaza - All on one day: three militants
killed in an Israeli air strike, four mourners killed by a grenade thrown by
unknown Palestinian assailants on the funeral of the victims of an earlier
Israeli attack, three children wounded in an Israeli shooting on another such
funeral...

Move to the Galilee
Yair Lapid - Ynet News
- This article exposes the Jewish supremacy thinking of a quite average
mainstream "liberal" [ed.]

Red Cross: Israel is holding Palestinian population
hostage
Saed Bannoura - IMEMC - The International Committee of the
Red Cross (ICRC) criticized the Israeli closure and occupation of Palestinian
land, which has left hospitals unable to treat the sick and injured, and has
left farmers unable to work their land. The Red Cross called on Israel to "lift
the retaliatory measures which are paralyzing life in Gaza", and to stop
targeting the civilian population.

World Bank: PA economy depends on mobility
Avi Issacharoff - Haaretz - If Israel cancels its policy of restricting
mobility and trade in the West Bank and lifts the siege on the Gaza Strip, the
PA "has the potential to yield double-digit growth rates."

Paris Conference - billions promised, doubtful
results
Ma`an News Agency - Paris - The Paris donors` conference,
which aims to bring in financial support for the Palestinian territories, begins
on Monday 17 December. The United Kingdom and the United States are supposed to
be pledging almost one billion dollars in aid, and the host - Sarkozy`s France -
an unspecified additional sum. So far, little of this bounty is to be seen among
in the miserable Palestinian daily life.

Friday protests: three wounded at Bil`in, five on Road
443
George Rishmawi/Eyad Bornat - IMEMC/Bil`in Friends of Freedom
and Justice - There is nothing special about this week`s protests, it is all a
continuing routine: the routine of only Israeli drivers allowed on route 443
which was built on Palestinian land, of the Fence still in the same place at
Bil`in months after the Supreme Court ordered it to be moved, of Palestinians
lodging an unarmed protest together with Israelis and internationals and of the
army shooting and wounding such demonstrators.

Hamas - If we can kill them, we can talk to them
Bradley Burston - Haaretz - We`ve tried everything we had to
eliminate them. They`ve done everything they could to return the favor. They`ve
gone so far as to send us human bombs, which, in the end, damaged their own
cause. There are those among us who say that only a massive invasion of Gaza can
stop the Qassams. Many of these are the same people who yearn for a return to
settlements in Gaza. Either way, they can forget it. The Qassams will continue
unless and until we engage Hamas in talks over a cease-fire, the first step in a
process that may take generations - mutual recognition of Israel and Palestine.

The Turbulent Winds of the Annapolis
Conference
Dan Lieberman - Palestine Chronicle - Discussing the
Annapolis Conference, in face-to-face talks with the prime ministers, foreign
ministers and non-government officials (NGOs) of Israel, Palestinian Authority,
Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, revealed how far we are from achieving peace in the
Middle East and how far Annapolis is from the Earth that others walk upon.

resistance.
