 Barak admits Gaza truce success
BBC News - Israel`s defence minister has acknowledged a military invasion of Gaza would not stop cross-border rocket attacks by Palestinian militants. Mr Barak said if Israeli forces invaded Gaza and stayed there two years "destroying the Hamas regime down to the last office and the last activist... you control another people against their will". He said that such circumstances would strengthen Palestinians` support in Gaza for Hamas rather the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah party.

Let the freedom boats reach Gaza!
FIDH - These boats symbolize the moral authority of the international civil society community. These sixty civilians from a total of sixteen countries have come together in order to break the conspiracy of silence about the criminal and inhumane siege that is suffocating the 1.7 million civilian population of the Gaza Strip.

Naomi Tzion - press release - "No to silence and to violence, yes to continued truce, yes to dialogue and good neighbourliness" Supporters of dialogue from Sderot and the Gaza border region held a bicycle tour and talked with Palestinian neighbours from Gaza and Sajaiya – by phone, for the time being

Palestinian women prisoners, harsh treatment and a lot of arbitrariness
WOFPP - On 20 July 2008 at 4:30am, wardens entered the cell of `Abeer `Odeh and Maryam elTarabin who are held in isolation. `Abeer `Odeh, from Tulkarem, was arrested on 22 April 2006. According to her sentence, she ought to have been released on 10 July 2008; but the Israeli authorities refused to release her and issued an administrative detention order against her for six months. The Israeli authorities may extend an administrative detention endlessly. [The Israeli women monitoring their imprisoned Palestinian sisters are not allowed to visit them; the contact is through lawyers and family members-ed]

Just fire a rubber bullet at him?
Haaretz Editorial - Shooting a shackled and blindfolded person, who is clearly not endangering soldiers, and even shooting in order to frighten, or the threat to shoot in order to frighten, and not even directly at the person`s body but only in immediate proximity to him, are all acts forbidden by law, whether military or civil, during times of both war and peace (...) The decision to try on a relatively minor charge sends a message to soldiers that the IDF is prepared to close its eyes.

Jerusalem taxi drivers to resign after learning new boss is an Arab
Saed Bannoura - IMEMC//Danny Adino Ababa - Ynet - The station employs twenty-three drivers and only five of them will remain after learning that the station will be sold to “an Arab”...

Against attack on Iran - international Jewish reaction to Morris
[The] clamour for war with Iran has met not only popular opposition but also runs counter to the quiet diplomacy that has engaged Iran in ongoing relations with the UN nuclear agency, as well as economic trade talks with the USA itself. Israel is also committed to a cease-fire that has held now for a month’s time, to the relief of both the populations of Israel and Gaza. In light of the developing political atmosphere of reason and negotiations, the militarist mindset has pumped up its rationale for war attempting to create the preconditions for a further war.

Two states for two peoples: solution or illusion?
Tony Klug - Open Democracy - Israel/Palestine is not South Africa; nor is it Northern Ireland; nor is it directly analogous to a host of other international or historical trouble-spots. Each conflict has its own peculiar features and, for a solution to work, it needs to spring from the inside-out.
