The price of occupying East Jerusalem
Amos Harel -
Haaretz - Defense Minister Ehud Barak urged Monday that legal obstacles be
removed so that terrorists` homes in Jerusalem can be demolished. But outgoing
prime minister Ehud Olmert`s observation after the previous attack in the
capital in July is also noteworthy. Anyone who thinks Israel`s occupation in
East Jerusalem must continue will have to take into account more bulldozer
attacks, he said.

The One-State Solution
Sari Nusseibeh - Newsweek -

Abbas: If no agreement soon, parameters of the debate are apt
to shift dramatically
Mahmoud Abbas - Wall Street Journal - Oslo
offered peace on a timetable, freedom doled out in stages. Its promise was
derailed by increased Israeli settlement construction, restrictions on
Palestinian movement and, correspondingly, by violent resistance to occupation
from some Palestinians. I continue to believe that we can achieve a lasting
peace, with the Israeli and Palestinian peoples living as neighbors in two
independent states. But if we do not succeed, and succeed soon, the parameters
of the debate are apt to shift dramatically.

Ni`ilin does not give up
Adam Keller - Aside from
the Fence, there is still another sword hanging over the villagers` heads:
according to military plans, Ni`ilin`s only access road would be declared a
"settlers-only road" from which Palestinians are barred. Instead, an access
tunnel would generously be dug for the villages (with a gate, to which the army
would possess the key).

A last chance for peace in Israel?
Johann Hari -
The Independent - "The window of opportunity for a two-state peace is closing.
Before it jams shut, the Israelis need to hear the plea coming through the
checkpoints. Divide the land. Divide it now. Divide it properly. Or we will all
end up battling forever – over nothing but soil soaked in blood and cordite"
