Paradoxical perspectives & grim

Olmert speaking of peace in Washington, while on
the same day Ramallah is invaded by undercover agents, and four stonethrowing
youths killed. Abu Mazen showing his last trump card to the Hamas: a referendum.
Meanwhile, our Palestinian friends who never before lost their good spirits
start sounding really hungry.
Is this the slow-motion wiping of the map of the Palestinians? Or, is what we see right now the Palestinian regaining of power points - an effort which costs them dearly? ______________________________________________ The latest on the joint Palestinian-Israeli-internationals

Just as Orwell’s totalitarian propagandists
proclaimed WAR IS PEACE and Israeli government signs placed at the Wall
(sorry, fence) at the entrance to Bethlehem greet Palestinians with the blessing
PEACE BE UNTO YOU, so Olmert declared in Washington: UNILATERAL
REALIGNMENT IS PEACE.
Missed Opportunities (Partial List) Uri Avnery May 27, 2006 "THE PALESTINIANS never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity!" - this phrase, coined by Abba Eban, has become a by-word. It also illustrates a wise Talmudic saying: "He who finds fault in others (really) finds his own faults."
Mightier than the sword Lily
Galili Ha'aretz Weekend Magazine, May 26,
2006
The
conversation took place in the garden of Fares Halas' home, at the foot of a
pretty fountain built by the homeowner. A kind of paradise in the middle of a
neighborhood that looks like a large garbage dump, and which has turned into
disputed land following the entry into the village of a group of Jewish settlers
from the Elad Association - the main aim of which is to judaize the City of
David, which is part of Silwan. Thus, this is the equation: The more sanctity a
place has, the more neglected it is. Maybe the Arabs will take the hint and
leave.
New Old Games
Adam Keller The Other Israel, May 2006,
editorial overview
'Separation' is now the byword in Israel. Declaring that "there
is no (Palestinian) partner", politicians embark on ever-new programs and
projects of unilateral actions, and the Separation Wall/Fence/Barrier grows ever
higher and cuts ever deeper into Palestinian territory. But rather than
disentangling, it is only intensifying the lethal embrace in which the two
peoples are trapped.

The Other Israel, May
2006
The Oslo
process, which in 1993 had aroused such expectations on both sides, deteriorated
because of the overcautiousness of Rabin. His great merit was that he built
relations of trust with the Palestinians — but whenever it came to
implementation of what was agreed upon he dragged his feet; the expression
"there are no holy dates" was his.

Now The Hague's
okay? Zohair
Androus Yediot's Ynet News May 26,
2006
To the
esteemed diplomats preparing the case against Ahmadinejad: If the International
Court of Justice in the Hague has no jurisdiction over your wall, why do you
consider it such a competent authority with regard to Iran? Can somebody please
explain to me Israel's double standard with regard to The Hague – The ICJ is
great when it serves my interests, but it is too biased to rule cases I could
stand to lose?
