LET'S TALK BUSINESS

Offline Holiday Marketing Ideas

Get some canvas tote bags printed up with your business information printed on it. Find a few ladies who are very active in your community and ask them to use your tote bag and give it to them for FREE under the agreement that they will use it every time they go out in the community for errands & events!

Get a license plate made up for your vehicle! If you have your normal license plate on the back of your car, put your business named one on the front of the car!

Check out your local area State Fairs & Community Carnivals, there are always a lot of them going on during seasonal weather. Ask about getting a booth or table & set it up with your business information! People love to shop at Fairs & Carnivals and they are looking to spend money!

Do a neighborhood children's Christmas shopping party! To make this successful make sure the products you are offering are economical, I try to keep them under $25.00 each with most being around $10.00 each. Have a table set up with some inexpensive crafting supplies and let the children make their own greeting cards to go with the gifts they have purchased or have a gift wrapping table set up so they can personally wrap their gifts!

Print up some flyers and get permission from local shopping centers to see if you can leave them on car windshields! Always ASK permission first!

THANKSGIVING PLANNING

Make this Thanksgiving a Memorable One

Before you know it, the friends and loved ones you cherish most will join you for Thanksgiving dinner. Whether you’ll be serving the traditional turkey with all the trimmings, or your signature dish, how you set the stage will be the key to making this holiday a memorable one.

That’s not to say you need to go out and buy new furniture and paint the dining room for the occasion, but “A few carefully chosen pieces can make all the difference, and a good place to start is with the table,” says Suzanne Wilkins, an expert on residential interior design and space planning, who works both in the private sector and as an instructor at The Art Institute of New York City.

Because Thanksgiving is a fall festival, start by putting down a yellow, orange or red tablecloth symbolic of the season, then build from there. Charles Keath Home (CharlesKeath.com) is a great place to turn to for ideas.

You can find everything from seasonal place settings and centerpieces to serving dishes and serve ware. Among the many offerings, quilted leaf place mats and napkins, and the complimentary Toscana Harvest china collection, featuring plates, bowls, baking dishes and coffee mugs graced with scalloped details in brilliant shades of pomegranate, pumpkin, eggplant and lime.

Once the table is set, you can move onto ambiance. Put seasonal candles on the table, and throw a log in the fireplace, if you have one. If you don’t, a great alternative is the Elizabeth Ventless Jel Fuel Fireplace offered by HomeVisions.com. This ventless fireplace made of solid hardwoods can be set up on any wall. It includes a realistic looking double log and two cans of jel fuel. One can of jel fuel lasts 2 to 3 hours. (Not a heat source; for decorative purposes only.)

Another decorative accent to consider is an additional place for people to sit both before and after the meal. Montgomery Ward offers an inexpensive upholstered nook set that doubles as a storage bench, available online at wards.com. The four-piece set includes one single, one corner and two double benches. After the holidays, it can serve as a place where the family can enjoy breakfast, and the kids can do their homework.

HOME DECORATING

Ideas for Decorating Boys' Rooms

As a mother of two young sons, I can attest to the need for a well-decorated boys' room. Any boy's room needs several things: safety, comfort, storage, and fun. Maybe you have boys whose rooms are total disasters. Maybe you're wondering how you can control the mess and give your boys a room they'll enjoy being in. If so, here are some tips to help make the process as simple as possible:

Cut the Clutter!

This is where you'll need to be firm. Help your boys evaluate every last item in the room. Get four totes or large boxes and label them as follows: Keep, store, donate, trash. Decide together which items stay, and which should go. For those items that are to be stored, get some stackable plastic totes that can be neatly placed in closets and under beds.

Add Some Color

Bright, primary colors in small doses are always great in boys' rooms. You could also incorporate shades of navy blue and hunter green into your boys' room. Let your boys go shopping with you and choose their own bedding. These days, there are sets of comforters and sheets that come in every color and theme you can think of, including favorite cartoon characters. Maybe your boy would like a Spiderman comforter, or maybe something in a train theme is more for him. If he's older, he may choose a solid color. It's important to give your child some say in the matter.
