Editor's Note

I hope you all had a wonderful time with your family and friends this Christmas. I certainly did. My tree is laden with more ornaments than it can bear, we hardly have any leftovers to take care of and my little baby girl is busy hugging the large cuddly snowman in the drawing room. Christmas festivities are not over yet and I am also planning for my new year's party which is to be an only-appetizers affair. So much to do in so short a time! Our ideas in today's issue as well as on our website http://www.dotcomwomen.com will help you throw creative parties for the new year as well as stay organized while wrapping up the holiday season.

Wish you all a very Happy New Year!

HOLIDAYS

After Christmas Organizing

The gifts have been opened. Leftovers chill in the fridge. Before you start focusing on the new year, try these tips to organize next Christmas.

1. Make a list of people who sent you Christmas cards. Add anyone else you'll send cards to next year. Input the list into your computer. Shop for cards at after Christmas sales.

2. Check your inventory of wrapping supplies. Buy them now at 70% off in most stores.

3. Make sure you have enough storage containers for all your decorations. Storage supplies go on sale every January.

4. Open your planner. Start a shopping list for next Christmas. List names. Shop or at least note gift ideas throughout the year.

5. Establish a budget for next Christmas. Include gifts, cards, postage, shipping costs, gift wrap, special meals, holiday clothing and baking supplies. Set up a savings account and arrange for monthly direct deposit.

6. Ask family members what were their favorite and least favorite activities this season. Make a note to focus on preferences and eliminate the least-liked next year.

7. Write Christmas goals in your 2007 planner. For example, July 15th, complete gift list; October 15th, address cards; November 15th, finish shopping; December 8th, reward self with spa day.

Cutting down costs for Wedding Flowers for Winter Wedding

by http://www.KnotForLife.com

Question:

I am going to have a Winter wedding and have received much higher estimates from my florist that I would like to spend. Is there any way I can cut down the costs for Wedding Flowers or are there any alternatives for flowers?

Answer:

In winters, although most flowers are available, their costs are higher because they are shipped from other countries.

Wedding flowers can broadly be classified into - Bouquets and Venue Decorations. You can save money on the bouquets by using flowers that are easily available such as carnations, gerberas, baby's breath etc. along with evergreens. Make more use of cheaper flowers and accentuate them with one or two exotic blooms.

For the decorations, the first thing you an do is to choose a venue that does not require much decoration. For example, a historic inn would not require much decoration. Similarly, themed weddings mostly require non-traditional decorations. Another option will be to use silk or artificial flowers.

HOMEMAKING

Cold Weather Safety Checklist

(NC)—As the temperature drops, the risk of illness and injury rises. To protect yourself and loved ones this winter, Sarah Tattersall, cold weather specialist for 3M Canada has these tips:

Dress appropriately: Check weather forecasts before heading out — hypothermia and frostbite can occur quickly, especially among children and seniors. Layering loose fitting, lightweight clothing is the best option. Look for materials with breathable, moisture-resistant Thinsulate insulation for warmth without the bulk.

Fight the Flu: Cold and flu germs are easily spread from the hands. Wash or sanitize your hands after touching public objects like handrails or bank machines and after handling money. A hand sanitizer like 3M's Avagard D helps eliminate germs that cause winter viruses.

Repel the elements: Water repellent products like Scotchgard create a durable water barrier that repels moisture, snow, dirt and stains to help keep your clothing and sports gear drier, cleaner and looking newer longer. Ideal for winter boots, ski wear, back packs and more.

Protect your skin: Cold and dry winter weather can rob your skin of much needed moisture. Products like Nexcare Skin Crack Care are easy to apply and designed to improve the look and feel of dry, itchy and uncomfortable skin.

Be seen: Blowing snow and ice, combined with long, dark days substantially reduce visibility. Innovations like Scotchlite reflective material help you to be seen at dawn, dusk, or night, in all weather conditions. Look for outerwear that incorporates this reflective material for outdoor activities like shoveling or even just walking the dog.

Slow down: This time of year is synonymous with slipping, tripping and falling. Take your time getting to your destination to avoid a spot on the winter injury list.
