BEAUTY TIPS
To tend to my skin, I keep potpourri steaming in the living room and kitchen.
When I shower before I do anything else to my feet, I put the plug in and soak my feet in the warm water.
To keep my hair shiny and squeaky clean, I occasionally put olive oil or mayonnaise on my scalp and let it sit for a 1/2 - 1 hour and then shampoo so I will have a clear scalp and my hair is moisturised.
For my dry hands or feet, I moisturise feet or hands and put gloves on hands or socks on feet while I sleep.
Bev Sobkowich, Canada
Nothing looks better than soft clear skin in the wintertime. Keep lotions handy in the house so that chapped skin does not take off on you. Chap stick or
Vaseline on your lips to keep them soft and kissable. In your purse keep a sample size of lotion for use when you are out. After a shower, sit and rub skin butter on your feet, ankles, elbows and
hands. Lotion used overnight works the best as it is not disturbed for hours. Simple care and lovely skin make us look refreshed even on the coldest winter day!?
Bev Sobkowich, Canada
Dry air is a major offender when it comes to skin dryness. I use a number of dual purpose moisturising aids.
First of all, put your moisturiser right next to the sink in the bathroom and kitchen sink. This is to remind you to use them at various times of the day and especially overnight.
The other thing I do is use potpourri in the electric potpourri holders and fill it to the top. Don't forget to unplug if you leave home for a while.
We use a decorative tea kettle and put water or water and potpourri on top of our wood burning stove.
When you cook your meals on the stove, simmer water at the same time and then turn off when your meal is
ready. Occasionally, put moisturising lotions on your hands and feet at bedtime and then slip on gloves and socks overnight. This will really help your dry skin.
Bev Sobkowich, Canada
To make Winter Feet as smooth as a baby's bottom:
Before bedtime: Soak feet for 10 minutes in warm water. Do not dry your feet. Instead, slather with vaseline and put on white cotton socks. When you take them off in the morning, your feet with be amazingly smooth and the skin healthier than it's been in years.
The vaseline seals the moisture in - allowing heels and soles to heal themselves of callouses and cracks, etc.
Frances Stewart, USA
To moisturize my hands and nails I warm hand cream with a drop or two of olive oil in the microwave for
20 seconds and massage while warm into my hands and nails.
Janet Fricano, USA
Winter skin can look dry and chapped from lack of maintenance and hydration. To keep your skin looking great, it needs to "turn over" with some type of exfoliating treatment. This can consist of several options, either mechanically exfoliating with a microdermabrasion treatment or chemically exfoliating with a monthly peel. Peels come in all types ranging from fruit enzymes to alpha-hydroxy acids. The goal is the same, to exfoliate dead, dull skin cells and let new skin cells rejuvenate the skin, leaving it glowing and radiant. Ideally these treatments should be done once every 4-6 weeks in the winter to keep your skin looking its best.
Leigh Giordano RN, BSN, MA
To keep my skin soft and to prevent dry itchy skin in the wintertime I take warm baths with 1/2 cup of
oatmeal added to the water.

I use Colestral which is sold in Sally Beauty Supply stores. A large container is less than $3 and lasts a long time. I apply a generous amount to my hair then put a shower cap over my head and a hot towel. I leave it in for an hour, rinse and style as usual. It's a very good conditioner. I use this weekly in the wintertime.
I also apply a generous amount of Curel hand lotion on my hands before bed and wear a pair of white cotton gloves. This keeps my hands in great shape for winter. I do this three times a week.
I always remove all my makeup before going to bed. I use baby oil to remove any eye makeup. It's great for removing makeup and a moisturizer. I apply a night time moisturizer.?
Lilly Petronka, USA
My normally oily skin gets very dry in the winter. All gas heat and
repeated handwashing (I have 3 small children), aggrevate the condition and
my lips and hands become cracked and chapped. I found that not one thing
works, but rather a combination of preventative measures. We use a cold air
humidifier (add anti-mold treatment) in the upstairs at night and run the
ceiling fans to circulate. I use vaseline on my lips and nails and hands at
night and then medicated lip-balm and rich moisurizer during the day.
Everytime I wash my hands I re-apply lotion. Once a week I soak my nails
and cuticles in olive oil and then treat myself to a manicure.
Mary Beth Isaac, USA
Starting in late summer start slathering on that lotion, all over your body.
I can tell a difference in the hydration in my body that first cool fall
day. Lots of lotion helps me when I'm feeling a bit like an alligator in
those cold months.

FITNESS TIPS
We all know Winter brings those two big holidays. Those two holidays mean lots of food and eating. What I do to prepare is find low-fat and healthy recipes that I know everyone will enjoy, and still not be adding on the pounds.?
BJ Deese, USA
Yoga is an excellent way to stay fit in the winter, because it can be done indoors. If you haven??™t exercised in a long time and are wanting to begin, yoga is a gentle way of waking up your body. Because it is slower paced, you have more time to concentrate on your movement than in a faster activity such as dancercise, and it can be done even by the elderly and those with physical limitations, provided that proper modifications to the poses are made. A qualified instructor can help you with this. Not only does yoga give your body a workout, it gives your mind and spirit a period of relaxation.?
Janet Barclay, Canada
HOME CARE
Reduce your heating bill considerably by using weather stripping. You can save as much as 30% on your average
heating bill by making sure cold air does not seep in though cracks around windows and doors.
Sharon Bray-McPherson, USA
GENERAL
First I hate winter!
I am a sunshine girl from the south.
Therefore my way of getting ready for winter is to work on my summer self!
I go to the tanning bed. Gotta get rid of that SAD! The ultraviolet waves help!
I also work on my bod! Lots of excercise and eating the right stuff! Cause hopefully bikini season will be here before long!
I take my pictures of the beach, lots of surf, sand and sun and I put them up in front of me at my office. That way when the winter doldrums threaten I gaze and pretend I am on the beach in 85 degree weather and all is at peace!
Jackie Stott, USA
Always keep a candle, matches or lighter and a blanket in the car just in
case you are not found right away. One candle will give off enough heat so
that you won't freeze to death. These are items that are in my vehicle
every winter.

LET'S TALK BUSINESS
Did You Remember To Send A Nice Note?
In the past few years, the look of marketing has changed - for the better I believe. Money businesses spend on Public
Relations (PR) has increased and has become a marketing priority. Even on the
Internet, people want to connect with you - to see your picture and the pictures of your staff.
I've had a few clients send me their pictures, too!
Many people enjoy receiving "nice notes" via mail - the
old fashioned type of PR. Nice notes are congratulations and thank you letters. When received they maybe kept in a folder
- in your file cabinet and in box. I started my first "Nice Notes" folder in 1973 when I started receiving thank you
letters as part of my first Wall Street job. I still have that folder and now have an email "Nice Notes" folder,
too.
Send nice notes to to your current and potential clients. Do you review the business sections of your local newspaper or
business journal for opportunities to "meet" your ideal clients, get known, and remembered, for your thoughtfulness?
The format you choose to send your nice note is up to you. Choose postcards, stationary, note cards, cards you make -
they can all be part of your PR. One thing though, make sure that the note is personalized and hand written is good! My
favorite cards to send out are postcards I create from scenic pictures taken on my across country trips. For
greeting cards use your favorite desktop publishing program.
According to "How To Say It" by Rosalie Maggio, p. 100 "don't make your congratulatory note do double duty: save
for another day any questions, information, sales messages, or work matters that aren't relevant to the good news at
hand. (Exception: personal letters accompanying birthday
congratulations.)" To that I'd add, don't even add your business card to the card. You can send that as a follow up.
Brenda Kury of Synergy Resource Solutions, Inc. http://www.countgrass.com
recently sent me another great public relations letter - a thank you card. On the front of
the card, it has her companies name, then a big "Thank
You", then the address phone number and web site for her company.
She hand writes her note. It's the type of card you want to hang up on the wall when you receive it (a little extra
PR?). Below are ten ideas of congratulatory cards you can create. So go buy those extra stamps!
-- Congratulations on your recent business opening
-- Congratulations on your recent move to
-- Congratulations on your membership into
-- Congratulations on your _____ article in
-- Congratulations on your recent promotion to
-- Congratulations on your recent expansion into

-- Congratulations on such a successful year
