Editor's Note

I was in the park today morning doing my daily exercise routine when a couple of girls passed by jogging. They were met with some other friends who tried to discourage them from jogging as they did not believe it helped in losing weight. I couldn't help overhearing and disagreeing. Every physical activity contributes to weight loss and jogging is certainly a great choice.

I am speaking from experience here. My BIL lost 60 lbs in less than 4 months by following a 45 minute jogging routine and nothing else. He came down from 182 lbs to 120 lbs and is physically and mentally a completely new person now. Read more about jogging for weight loss in our Fitness article today.

FITNESS

Jogging for Weightloss

Jogging carries all the benefits of walking whilst having a greater impact. Whereas walking increases the heart rate a little, burns a few calories and increases your general fitness, jogging can have a much greater effect due to the significantly increased pressure on the body to provide energy. Weightloss portal Sureshot Weight Loss tells us more about jogging for weight loss.

Jogging is suitable for almost anybody, as you can make it as tough or as gentle as you see fit. A gentle jog will increase the heart rate and burn more calories than walking, whilst a brisk jog will really get your heart going.

It is important to remember that, like walking, jogging is unlikely to give you fast results if you are looking to lose weight. Whilst it is true you are going to burn excess fat, you are going to also be toning lower body muscles. This is great for improving fitness, and you will feel the difference very early on, but you won’t be dropping too many jean sizes anytime soon.

As jogging is much more physically exerting, it is very important that you have comfortable trainers and take in plenty of fluids. You will tend to sweat a lot whilst jogging, so it is important to ensure you don’t dehydrate. It is also important to stretch before and after jogging to avoid muscle injury.

Going for a jog a few times a week for as little as half an hour will have you well on your way to a healthier lifestyle, and requires little in the way of monetary investment other than a good pair of trainers. It is also helpful if you can find a friend to partner you, as the company will help spur you on and avoid boredom, which is important if you intend to exercise regularly.

6 ounces mushrooms, sliced
3 small zucchini, grated
1/2 cup pine nuts
1/3 cup tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 onion, chopped
1 14-ounce can artichokes hearts, drained, chopped
2 cups grated Cheddar cheese
2 medium tomatoes, sliced
12 black olives, pitted, halved

PIZZA DOUGH

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4-ounce package dried yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
3/4 cup warm water

Combine mushrooms and zucchini in pan, cover, cook over low heat until tender, drain, press out excess liquid. Toast pine nuts on oven tray in 375° oven for 5 minutes. Spread pizza base with combined tomato paste and oregano. Top each with onion, artichoke hearts, half the cheese, mushroom mixture, pine nuts, tomatoes, and olives. Top with remaining cheese, bake in 375° oven 40 minutes or until golden brown. Pizza Dough: Sift flour into bowl, add combined yeast, sugar and water, mix to a firm dough. Knead on lightly floured surface 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Divide in half, roll out to cover base and sides of 2 greased 8-inch cake pans.

HOME DECOR

Spring Home Care – Revamp and brighten your property this season with a few quick tips

(NC)—Spring has sprung! Along with melting snow and blossoming flowers comes spring cleaning. We all know that the garage must be cleaned, the hallway closet cleared of mouldy mitts and muddy boots, and Christmas decorations returned safely to the corner of the basement. Although we can all remember to scrub the inside of our house, it's essential to take care of the outside of our homes as well.

One section of your house exterior that should not be forgotten is your outdoor lights. There are a number of things you can do to revamp your current lighting system to enhance the look of your home, and keep it safe during the spring season.

• Before working with outdoor lighting, be sure to turn off the supply outlet and unplug any connections to electricity.

• To clean the existing bulbs, simply wipe them down with a damp, lint free cloth.

• Try installing the Philips Duramax Postlight, which is perfect for outdoor light fixtures. Its brass base won't freeze or corrode and can be used for post lights, front doors, driveways, porches, or garage entrances.

• With many new or renovated homes, outdoor pot lights add a special glow to your exterior. Philips offers Compact Fluorescent, incandescent and halogen outdoor reflectors for these lights such as the Energy-saver Halogen Par38 floodlight.

• There are also ways of getting rid of those pesky spring bugs as well. The Philips Bug-A-Way bulb can be used in most covered outdoor fixtures and helps to repel a good number of flying insects.

• If you plan to install new lights for the spring season, make sure they are in a place where they won't be damaged by lawnmowers or weed-whackers.

• Don't forget to clean up and update your lighting at the cottage as well!

• While cleaning and updating your exterior lighting this year, be sure to make a list of all outdoor fixtures and their bulb type so that next year's task is that much easier.

These simple tricks will lead to a season full of lighting brilliance - after you have finished your spring-cleaning.

Top Hairstyles For Small Hair

Here are some of the top hairstyles for short hair:

1. A short, feathery cut along with a straight ,cropped fringe. For this the hair can either be left to dry naturally or blow dried while ruffling with the fingers.

2. Naturally wavy hair ,lightly layered .A wet look gel applied to the hair combed into soft waves and side curls, then left to dry naturally.

3. Fine, straight hair, lightly layered and cut close into the nape. A root perm provides extra volume at the crown of the head. The hair should then be finger dried using a styling mousse.

4. A short, urchin cut is good for all hair textures. Highlights give extra interest and add thickness to finer hair.

5. Medium textured hair, cut into layers of the same length, then blow dried using a strong hold mousse to get lift, and finished with a mist firm-hold hairspray.
