Hot Summer Looks
(NC)—Finally. The sun
is shining and the warmer weather is here. So how do you put your
best face forward and look hot this summer without getting burned?
International make up creator, Gig, who boasts a client list of
Hollywood's richest and most famous faces, shares his secrets on
this summer's hottest looks.
"This summer is all
about colour!" says Gig. "Everything is a happy, playful look, with
bright colours that are so gorgeous."
To complete the
vibrant California look, Gig suggests starting with the freshest
looking skin. For Gig, this begins with a visit to his refrigerator.
According to this sought-after image creator, a simple cucumber
mashed in a cup and then applied to the skin can act as a great skin
freshener and exfoliating agent. "You'll look a bit pink after it,
but your skin will be perfect for applying a lightly tinted
moisturizer. Put away the heavy foundations and powders. This summer
you want a natural glow and look."
For his models and
clients, Gig prefers Banana Boat Suncare's new tinted facial
moisturizer, EveryDay Glow, because it goes on smoothly, evenly and
isn't greasy. "It's important to begin with skin that looks healthy
and alive – without any signs of drama."
For eyes, it's all
about the lashes. Waterproof mascara – and lots of it – should be
used to accentuate the eyes. Depending on skin tones, try a shimmery
gold or copper, or for a more vibrant look, apply a single colour
just above the eyelashes in one of the season's hot liquid
eyeliners.
Matte lipsticks are
moving to the back of the vanity as bold lip glosses pucker up to
the front of the line. Hair takes on a more natural look too, with
women wanting the perfect fluff and go style. "You can add a few hot
rollers, mess it up and you're ready for anything. And whatever you
do, bangs are a must!"

Crab Mousse
1 - 10 oz. can Cream of Mushroom soup, undiluted
1 - 6 oz. package light cream cheese
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup cold water
1/2 cup finely chopped celery

Un-mold on serving plate and allow guests to spread on assorted
crackers as an appetizer.
SHOPPING
Choosing a Swimsuit that Flatters Your Figure
(NC)—When it comes to swimsuits Sears has the
hottest and best fitting swimsuits of the season.
Sears Canada's swimwear buyer Shannon Wood says,
"women should really understand their body shape and get accurate
body measurements before shopping for a swimsuit. These are
essential to getting the best fitting and figure flattering style
that suits your body type."
If you have a…
Large chest, look for suits with underwire, soft
cups with wider straps for the best support.
Small chest, go for detailing or a pattern on top
to give the illusion of a larger chest. Two-piece swimsuits are also
a great way to enhance the bust area.
Full hips, try a suit with a skirt to visually
even out your line. Printed tops with solid coloured bottoms also
help draw the eye upward.
A tummy, look for a suit that has a built-in
tummy control and those with ruching or a crossover design to help
camouflage your midsection.
Not much of a waist, create one with swimsuits
that are gathered, shirred and, embellished at the waist. Swimsuits
with belts are also a great option to give the illusion of a waist.
A short torso, elongate your body with a bikini.
Two-piece swimsuits with lower cut bottoms give the illusion of a
longer torso.
A long torso, try suits that give you a balance
effect. Deeply-cut neckline, higher waisted and higher cut bottoms
help make the torso appear shorter.
Be sure to measure your body accurately for the
best fitting swimsuit, as follows:
Bust: Measure around the fullest part of the bust
and back, keeping your arms at your sides and the measuring tape
level.
Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of the
waist. Try bending to the side to find the natural indent.
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your
hips, keeping your legs together and the measuring tape level.
Torso: Measure from the centre of your shoulder,
over the fullest part of the bust, through the legs and back to the
shoulder.

BOOKS
Great Books for Beach Lovers
Beach lovers away for the beach are literally
like fish out of water. But for those longing for a touch of salt
and sand in between seaside vacations, there are ways to bring a
little of the beach home by adding these titles to your bookshelf:
The Song of the Sea by D. Morgan: Composed primarily of quotations,
accompanyied by pale New England-esque paintings, The Song of the
Sea captures the essence of sea and sand. The images are soft, sandy
seaside neutrals, New England watercolors, weathered and wonderful.
Seashells and gulls and tall, windblown dune grasses come to life on
the book's pages.
Pure Sea Glass by Michael LaMotte: Featuring photography by Celia
Pearson, this is a wonderful tribute to a beachcomber's prized find.
Part history, part reference, and part photo essay, Pure Sea Glass
is a beautiful hardcover that would make a great coffee table book.
Sifting through pages rife with gorgeous, full-color photographs is
a little like bringing the art of beachcombing right to your own
home.
Beaches by Gideon Bosker and Lena Lencčk: Celebrating seascapes
around the world with stunning photography, this book brings home
the seashore in its many moods. From serene waterscapes to images of
crashing waves, whatever side of the ocean you love, you'll find it
in these pages. Interspersed between incredible photographs are bits
of seashore folklore and tidbits of information. Beach lovers are
sure to find a bit of the shore they so love within these pages.
Or how about a children's book? With their enchanting storylines and
page after page of wonderful, whimsical artwork, children's books
are a wonderful way to capture a place that you love, such as the
beach. Consider The Lighthouse Cat by Sue Stainton with
illustrations by Anne Mortimer or Sneakers, the Seaside Cat by
Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated, as well, by Anne Mortimer.
Another great children's book set along the shore is Riptide by
Frances Ward Weller and illustrated to perfection by Robert J.
Blake. So don't discount children's books when you're looking to
bring a little bit of the seashore home with you.
When you can't be at the beach, sometimes a book that captures the
essence of the shore is the next best thing. So why not fill your
bookshelves with words and images that bring a little bit of the
wind and the waves right into your own home?
