CRAFTS

Cupcake Candles

With candle making, there are hardly any limits. You can replicate lots of things with your creativity. Here are some delicious 'Cupcakes' that look very, very inviting.

Complete with chopped crayon bits for nuts and decorations, many people will mistake them for edible, freshly-baked, icing-topped cupcakes coming from your kitchen!

Materials Needed:

Candle Making Supplies (Wax, Dyes, Boiler, Wicks etc.),
Paper Muffin Cups (2-3 for one candle),
Whisk,
Old Crayons (chopped into small pieces)

Directions:

1.Place 2-3 paper cups into each other for strength. Now, place them into individual muffin molds or a muffin tray for a string base. Grease them lightly if you wish, but it is not necessary.

2. Melt Wax, mix a dark or earthy colored dye for the muffin base. We have used brown, but you can experiment. They are not real cakes after all!

3. Pour melted wax into the prepared 'molds'. Allow to cool and set. You can use a wick at this point. We have have not used one because I made these 'cupcakes' just as a show-piece.

4. Meanwhile, prepare the 'frosting'. Melt wax and dye it a soft, creamy color. We used used a pale, earthy brown again, but pinks, creams, blues, greens, yellows, peaches etc. look great for the icing. Be creative with your color combinations.

5. Cool the melted wax till you see a thin skin forming on it. Whip it with a whisk till it gets frothy. Quickly, spoon the froth over the cupcake. If the wax solidifies before you are able to spoon enough froth, repeat the melting, cooling and whipping process.

6. While the frosting is still warm, sprinkle pieces of old crayons.

HOLIDAYS

Favorite Fourth of July Traditions

Fourth of July is the American Independence Day and celebrates the spirit of Patriotism and Freedom. The only holiday dedicated to America, 4th of July is associated with many traditions the major ones of which are discussed here.

The day has forever been associated with favorite customs like fireworks, parades, barbecues, beer, picnics, baseball, outdoor parties, public and private events honoring the nation etc. Being a summer holiday, most events and entertaining takes place outdoors.

Fireworks are probably the most identifiable event for Fourth of July. Fireworks have been associated with Fourth of July since 1777. Firework shows are held in many states and families and groups even buy them for private use. Fireworks are often accompanied by singing or music of patriotic songs.

Picnics and Barbecues have become Fourth of July traditions due to main reasons. The first reason being that summer is a lovely time to be spent outdoors and the second being that these two are easiest way to entertain a large number of guests.

Public events are common in most cities with state politicians making an appearance for giving patriotic speeches. Singing of the national Anthem and other patriotic songs is also common. Fourth of July parades are mostly held in the morning with red, white and blue decorated floats.

Baseball, Football and Frisbee Games and other outdoor and beach games are popular. There also usually a host of activities for kids like face painting, fairs and carnivals etc. organized at various public places.

Patriotic displays are commonly seen everywhere. People customarily deck their houses with flags, buntings and streamers in Red, White and Blue, the colors of the American flag. Even the clothing worn by people on Fourth of July reflects the colors and designs of the Flag.

WEDDINGS/BEAUTY

Step-by-step Bridal Makeup Application Tips

Your wedding day is coming closer and closer and if there is one thing you want most, it is looking the best on your special day. Here is a step-by-step guide to applying makeup for your wedding day:

Preparing Your Face

1. Start with a clean, well moisturized face. If you have oily skin, use a moisturizer specified for your skin type. If you have dry skin, use a hydrating spray before you begin.

2. Now select a foundation. This is a very important part and you need to be very careful when choosing a foundation. You need to look for a product that suits your skin tone and is also long-staying. If you are having a summer or a beach wedding, look for something water resistant. The foundation should also be streak proof so that makeup lines don’t show. It should really set off your complexion and not make it look dull. A useful tip is to go to a beauty counter and get 2-3 products tried on your face well before the wedding.

3. After applying the foundation, set it with a translucent setting powder.

Eye Makeup

1. Hydrate the area with cream and then make a base. Apply a neutral color Eyeshadow over the entire eyelid right you’re your lash line to the bow.

2. Now for some accentuation. Use a mid tone hue in the outer corner of the eye to emphasize it. Take care to use Eyeshadow colors that suit your skin tone and go well with your accessories, jewelry and bouquet colors.

3. Now apply eyeliner. It is good to practice well beforehand to get a clean and straight line.

3. For thick lashes, use an eyelash curler to curl them and coat with a double coat of mascara. If you think there is even a slight chance that you might cry, go in for waterproof mascara.

Cheeks and Lips

1. Choose a color that suits your skin tone and goes with your dress and enhance your natural glow with blusher.

2. Prepare your lips by applying lip balm. Exfoliate and moisturize lips regularly prior to the wedding to ensure soft and smooth lips.

3. Line your lips with a lip liner. Don’t sway from your natural shape. Just make your natural shape more visible.

4. Fill in with an appropriate shade of lipstick. Once again, make sure your lipstick in transfer-resistant and long stay. Invest in a good quality lipstick that gives you all this and keeps your lips moisturized.

It is always advised to put on trial makeup several times before the wedding so that you save yourself from any last-minute makeup disasters on your most special day. Lots of rest and a relaxed state of mind will ensure you have your natural glow on your wedding day.
