HOLIDAY TRADITIONS
Favorite Christmas Traditions
Dot Com Women forum members have shared their treasured
Christmas traditions with us and here they are for you. You could
get inspired to start your own family traditions or simply take a
trip down memory lane and think about your own family traditions
when you were young:
My brother and I were allowed to open one little tree present
before bed! It was a really special treat and harder still to
force myself to go to sleep, to wake up again to more madness and
excitement!
- mother
My parents would leave a small gift on my brother's and my
bedside tables late at night after we were asleep so that when
we awoke in the morning we could open a little something ~
usually something to play with or read or "do" until the agreed
upon hour when we were all allowed to come upstairs and wake up
my parents! I always loved that :)

We started a tradition when the kids were a bit younger. We
open our gifts to each other on Christmas Eve.......that way,
those gifts didn't get lost in the Santa presents. We do them one
at a time and explain why we chose that gift for each person.
Makes it more meaningful.

In our house when we was kids we used to hang stockings on
Christmas eve which people normally do but on new years eve we
used to leave our slipper behind the front door and that was
filled with fruit and sweets. my parents used to say it was the
fairies taking all the bad out of the year and bringing in cheer.

CHRISTMAS RECIPES
Christmas Turkey in a Nutshell
Buy a fat old free-range bird for the best taste
ever.
Place her on a big sheet of foil.
Smear a nice bit of butter over the breasts then lay slices of bacon
over it to stop it drying out.
Season.
Pull and gather the foil up then pour a litre of good stock into the
cavity.
Seal and cook in a moderate oven for 40 mins per kilo, until the
liquid runs clear when you prick the bird.
Divine!

CHRISTMAS DECORATING
Creative Christmas Decorating Ideas
Miscellaneous postings from our forum members brought out
several beautiful, unusual and creative ideas.
'Snow' Theme Christmas Decorating
White baubles, snowflakes and white bows on plain green wreaths
and on the Christmas tree brings this theme to life.
Santa and Snowmen Theme
Stuffed miniature Santas and Snowmen on the mantle and the
sideboard table along with large ones under the tree make this a
beautiful theme for kids. The tree has its share of Santa and
snowmen and has a lovely snowman topper.
Ribbons on Trees
Make your tree beautiful by adding ribbon. Wire edged ribbon
can be 'wrapped' around the tree or flown down from a bow or pom
pom tree topper. Other ribbons can be used to tie bows on the tree
branches.
An Elegant Christmas
KellyDid gave her house a rich look with burgundy plaid,
paisley, brocade, gold sheer and brocade, white brocade and sheer
ribbon wrapped around the tree, with gold, burgundy and white
ornaments, baby's breath, pine cones (gold and white), gold
spirals stuck in the branches.
An Eatable Centerpiece
Lilly used a beautiful basket and placed tomatoes, bell
peppers, onions and hot peppers from her garden as a centerpiece
for our table! This is a nice way to display your vegetables from
your garden and also eatable!
CHRISTMAS CRAFTS
Lighted Christmas Vase
Place tinsel in a glass bowl and intersperse battery-operated
lights with them. The bowl looks fantastic when aglow!
Cozy Fleece Scarf
Materials needed:
Scissors
2 yards of fleece material.
I bought mine from Walmart in the bargain bin. (Of course)
Fold into half side to side. Trim each side to ensure a straight
cut.
Open fold, then cut down the middle to make 2 separate scarfs, or 3
depending how narrow you want your scarf.
Fold in half from end to end. Take one layer and cut the end to make
a fringe. About 3 inches long, 1 inch apart. Be sure to use a sharp
pair of scissors. Then cut the other layer while using the first
layer as a guide.
Now... you have a nice warm and cozy scarf.
Light bulb Christmas ornaments
Save your burnt out light bulbs.........spray paint them gold or
silver (or any color you want) then sprinkle glitter on them. Glue a
ribbon around the socket end and attach a string to hang it with and
you have a very pretty Christmas ornament to hang on the tree. By
the time Christmas gets here, you might have you a beautiful set to
use on your tree!
