LAST MINUTE HOMEMADE GIFT IDEAS

Homemade Holiday Gift Ideas from Dot Com Women members

1. Jar Cakes

This is a wonderful gift to give. It is so simple yet it leaves most people delighted and you will be sure to get the questions "how did you do that" over and over. It is very inexpensive and you get several done at once. Experiment with different cakes. This is my favorite gift to make.

You will need a straight wide mouth canning jar. It must be the straight wide mouth jar to make the cake slide out with ease. Next you will need your favorite cake recipe. If you are in a pinch for time go ahead and use a boxed cake mix. Lightly spray the jar with cooking spray. Fill the jars only half way full of cake batter. Place the jars on a cookie sheet and bake. Time depends on size of jars. Just check for doneness with toothpick. When done remove from oven and immediately place seals and bands on jars. Just be careful and be sure to use oven mitts, jars are very HOT. The heat will make the jars seal. You can decorate them with ribbon of many sorts and fabric. Wait till you taste them. Mmmmm... They are so moist. Most people who receive them don't want to open them because they look so neat but insist that they do. They will be delighted they did. Enjoy. I have been told different things on how long they can be stored and eaten. I personally make them a couple of days prior to giving them away and don't advise you wait too long to eat them. Keep in refrigerator or freezer for longer storage.

2. My sister and I created dried topiaries for my mother and grandmothers one year for Christmas. We used dried roses, baby's breath and ribbon. Arranging them on a large foam ball and had a painted flower pot as the base for the topiary. They all loved them.

4. Take a dress from your baby years sew the arms the neck and stuff it, it makes your mom a cute pillow.

5. Jean Purse - There is 2 ways to make the jean purse. You can use the leg or cut the legs off and use the "torso". To do the torso, cut the jeans like you would if you were making really short, shorts. Then you can either sew or use hot glue to seal the bottom of your new purse, its that easy. Make sure the bottom is real secure. To make a smaller version with the leg you just cut a square out of the leg and do the same. You can use the rest of the jeans to make the handle or strap. Some other creative ideas for this craft: Use 2 different coloured jeans (one dark, one light) and use/cut out designs, pockets, buttons, zippers and other cool stuff. There is so many cool ideas for this craft! When your done its even possible to make a Jean wallet that matches!

ELKE'S WEEKLY BEAUTY TIP

Find a blush brush that perfectly fits the size of the apple of your cheek when you smile. Anything bigger than that, and you'll get blush where you don't want it. You really don't need a huge blush brush for color. Those are meant for shimmery powders.........
