VALENTINE'S DAY IDEAS

Romantic Valentine's Day Nights At Home

Pamper your sweetheart without spending a lot of money. If you are looking to do something romantic and special for Valentine's Day, here are a few ideas you can do at home with your sweetheart that will make him or her feel truly special.

A fireplace Picnic- Get a warm fleece blanket and lay it down beside a fireplace. Grab some champagne on ice, serve strawberries with the champagne to add flavor, and then put on some romantic music on the stereo.

Sweetheart's Spa Night- when your sweetie gets home from work, have a hot bath filled with rose pedals. Have a glass of champagne or wine, chocolates to nibble on by the side of the bathtub. While your sweetie is in the bath, get the bed ready, add fresh warm towels on the bed, get some spa products, and washcloths.

Spa products can include massage oils, moisturizers, footrubs, etc..... Give your sweetie a massage! Afterwards light some scented candles, and enjoy your favorite take out in bed, while you watch a romantic movie.

These are a just a few ideas, another favorite is a 'Red Hot lover's Gift Basket" for both you and you Valentine to enjoy. Whatever gift you choose to give, make it as romantic as possible for your sweetheart.

EASY VALENTINE'S DAY RECIPES

Chocolate Dipped Heart Cookies

1 20 ounce package Pillsbury refrigerated sugar cookies well chilled
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon shortening

Method:

Heat oven to 350. Remove half of cookie dough from packaging. Chill remaining half of dough until needed. Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with 3 inch floured heart shaped cookie cutters. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until light golden. Cool cookies completely. Heat chocolate chips and shortening together until melted. Dip half of each cookie in to chocolate mixture. Place on wax paper. Chill until chocolate is set. Repeat with remaining dough.

Double-dipped Strawberries

36 strawberries (about two 1-pint baskets), unhulled
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips (about 9 ounces)
1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
1 1/2 cups chocolate sprinkles (about 6 ounces)

Line large baking sheet with waxed paper. Wipe strawberries clean; dry with paper towels.
Stir chocolate chips and shortening in top of double boiler set over simmering water until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth. Place chocolate sprinkles in shallow bowl. Holding 1 strawberry by its green top, dip 3/4 of berry into melted chocolate. Let excess chocolate drip off, then dip into chocolate sprinkles. Place on waxed-paper-lined sheet. Repeat dipping remaining strawberries into chocolate, then into sprinkles. Refrigerate until chocolate coating is firm, about 1 hour. (Can be prepared 8 hours ahead. Keep refrigerated.)

Makes 36.

VALENTINE'S DAY CRAFTS

'Be Mine' Ornament

4 inch lace doilies, two
wood shapes: 1 1/2 inch wood disc; 2 inch puffed wood heart
acrylic paints: flesh, red, dark rose, black, white
paintbrushes: #4 flat, fine liner, small stencil
1/2 inch red satin picot ribbon 7 inches
hot glue gun

1: Sand wood pieces. With two or more coats, basecoat the disc flesh and
the heart red.
2: To paint the face, squeeze a small puddle of dark rose on a palette.
Dip a stencil brush in paint and brush on paper towel to remove almost
all the paint. Rub brush in a circular motion on disc (face) to paint
cheek areas. Use a liner brush and paint black paint for closed eyes,
lashes and a small mouth between the cheeks.
3: Use the liner brush and white to paint "Be Mine" on the heart.
4: To assemble, glue heart to the lower part of the face (disc). Fold
the doilies in half. Overlap and tack doilies together at top, and glue
to the back of face/heart. Loop ribbon and tack ends to the center back
for hanger.
