LET'S TALK BUSINESS

Message Boards ~ Using Them Properly
By Kara Kelso (DCW Member)

We all have our own reasons for joining message boards. Maybe its to meet some friends, or find some ideas for your business. Maybe you just needed a place to announce your party. Whatever the reason, are you using them properly?

There are several purposes of a message board:

1. Meet new people/network ~ This does not mean finding people to advertise to. Networking means just meeting people. A person you meet can do several different things:
 - Become a customer
 - Introduce you to another customer
 - Open up other networking opportunities
 - Become a partner
 - Become a friend

2. Share Idea/Get Opinions ~ Key word here being SHARE. Asking for ideas and opinions is good, but giving them is more important. Be sure you are giving back to the community.

3. Announce Specials and Events ~ This should be done only in appropriate categories and only if you are active in the community.

Some "don'ts" of message boards:

~Don't spam the board by posting your ads in inappropriate categories or threads. For example, in a category called "Parenting Advice", don't post your special on toys.

~Don't just post when someone is looking for a business. Get involved with the community and help people as much as you can without promoting your business to them.

~Don't rely on everyone else to start posts, start some yourself. If everyone else waited for someone else to post, no one would be posting. Share and experience with a party, or about an interesting article you read. Just get the conversation going!

~Don't join just to promote your business. If you join expecting your sales to explode, think again. Remember you are here for support, to share ideas, and make some friends. Sales will come eventually, and will probably not be directly.

There are all kinds of message boards, so be sure to follow the rules on each. Two of my favorite boards are:

TBA Deals (networking and chit chat) - http://www.tbadeals.us/forum/
Mothers Work At Home - http://mothersworkathome.com/phpbb2/index.php
Most importantly - Have Fun!!

Beauty Tip

Protect your skin from the sun with a block that screens both UVB and UVA light. Make sure your sunscreen contains both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Sunblock manufacturers went ballistic about popular ingredients avobenzone or Parsol 1789 when it was discovered that the chemical deteriorates in sunlight. There is no perfect sunblock, but wearing any lotion with a SPF of 15 to 30 is still effective

Fitness Tip

If you cut out one weekly fast food meal from your diet and made no other changes you would lose twelve pounds in a year.

Fashion Tip

Try to plan your wardrobe around three neutral colors like black, white, khaki, navy or brown. That will never leave with 'nothing to wear!'

Recipe Of The Week

Indian Masala Chai (Tea)

Masala Chai (Tea), an aromatic spiced tea, has been the Indian drink of choice for hundreds of years. It is the perfect blend of freshly ground spices (chai masala) like cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom and pepper, added to a
boiling pot of loose leaf tea and milk to make a delicious, satisfying and healthy beverage.

To make chai for 2 you will need:

2 cups water
1 cup whole milk
2 teaspoons any unflavored
Tea leaves OR
2 tea bags of unflavored tea
2" piece of fresh ginger
2 Green cardamoms crushed
1 small cinnamon stick.
Sugar to taste.

Method:
In a pot boil the water and milk together. When it comes to a boil add 2 teaspoons of tea leaves. You can make it stronger if you want. Do not use green tea as it will not give you the color. Add the ginger, cardamom and cinnamon stick. Reduce the heat as the tea rises up and tends to boil over. Boil on simmer for 3 minutes until the flavors are released. The tea should become
golden brown in color. Take off the heat. Strain the tea into a tea pot. Add sugar to taste. Serve hot.

Accompaniments: Tea can be served with sweet or salted Biscuits or Pastries.

Home-Decor

Using Colors in Your Room
Colors play an important part in your Home Decor process. Colors are what give life and personality to your room.

Here are some quickies to keep in mind when deciding over colors.

1. If you are using many colors in one single room, make sure you use a color at least three times in the same room. You could use shades and tints of that color. For e.g. your curtains, pillows and tablecloth can be of the same color. This gives a look of harmony and help avoid the 'too much' and 'confused' look.

2. For filling space, use warm colors like reds, yellows and oranges. They tend to grab the eye and fill the space and are soothing and warm.

3. For giving an illusion of more and open space, use cool colors like blues, greens and violets.

4. For a serene and comforting look, use pale pinks. The closer pink gets to red, the more energetic it becomes.

5. Use vertical stripes on walls and curtains for an illusion of height.

6. Light colored walls and ceilings make the room look larger and more spacious.

7. Try to avoid contradicting colors and themes. If you want your room to look larger and need to use cool colors to achieve it, choose a theme which goes with cool colors.

8. If same-colored sofa, carpet and other upholstery give a monotonous look, use colorful cushions and wall-hangings to break the monotony.

Travel Tip and Poll

Travelling advice for pregnant women

Carry with you some bottled water and to sit in an aisle seat. If you don??™t already have to go to the bathroom every two hours just because you??™re pregnant, then we advise you to drink enough water that you do have to go. The increased fluid intake plus the increased activity greatly reduces the risk of blood clots. And don??™t worry about irritating the flight crew or the other passengers. Unless there is a true emergency, they love to make allowances for a pregnant woman.
