HOME DECORATING

A Quick Room Makeover on a Budget

Perk Up your dull and lifeless room with these simple and quick ideas that won't break your budget.

1. The first step towards a room makeover is to start Cleaning your house. Clean all your windows and upholstery or get them professionally cleaned. This will give your room a fresh and renewed look.

2. Shop at discount stores for area rugs and cushions. They are a great way to perk up any tired-looking room.

3. Use your quilts and throws on sofas and beddings to add color and texture to your rooms.

4. The sofa is the focal point of any sitting room. Get Your Sofa a new slipcover made or make one yourself using fabric bought from a discount store.

5. Shop at discount stores for bright-looking accessories and replace old ones with these. Bright lamps, lampshades, vases and other decorative items will instantly freshen up your room. Remember not to overdo the accessorizing as it is the first step towards cluttering your home.

6. An extremely economical way to give your room a makeover is to paint it. Choose paint colors according to the season and your personal tastes and give your room a real facelift.

7. Go in for a change to avoid stagnancy. Rotate framed pictures monthly, alternate between a lamp and a candelabra, change the placement of accessories on your mantle etc. Without investing in any new object, you will find your home looking new and fresh using what you already have.

SUMMER CRAFTS FOR KIDS

Kids Activity - Gift BagsDecorated Gift Bags

Materials Needed:

Plain Brown Paper Bags
Sponge
Acrylic paints
Hole puncher
Thin Wool Roping for Handles
Curling ribbon
Bows
Scissors
Glue

Directions:

1. Cut the sponge into any shape. Dip into acrylic paint on a saucer, blot away the excess and then place on bag and lift straight up. Use either one color or 2-3 colors. We have used yellow, teal and red.

2.  Allow to dry. Turn down the bag a couple of inches at the top and punch two holes about 2" apart using a hole puncher.

3. Cut 2 pieces measuring 6 inches each (smaller if your bag is small) and pass it through the holes. Knot the ends of the rope on the inside of the bag.

4. Make a circle of glue near any of the punched holes and stick small pieces of curling ribbon on it. Use 2-3 colors of ribbon.

5. On the bottom edge diagonally opposite to where you have placed the curling ribbons, stick a bow.

And you are done! make several of these in varying colors and use them to give cookies or candies or gifts other than food items.

DAILY REGIME FOR HEALTHIER SKIN

Step one -- Cleanse.

You should cleanse your skin at least twice a day with a mild, non-irritating cleanser. Avoid cleansing with soap. Oil based cleansers are suitable for all skin types. Cream cleansers will suit a dry skin.

Smooth on the cleanser and leave it for a few seconds to dissolve impurities. Then very gently wipe it off with cotton wool or damp tissue. When using a wash off cleanser you should apply it to damp skin and then remove with warm water

Step two -- Tone.

Using a toner re-hydrates, cools, nourishes and refreshes your skin. Toners remove any remaining traces of dirt, makeup or oil you cleanser may have not removed. It's good to use a toner that is alcohol-free, as alcohol may dry your skin.

Step three -- Exfoliate.

Exfoliating gives the skin a healthy glow and gets rid of the spots that tend to make you look sallow and your skin blotchy. Make sure the exfoliant is not granular so you do not damage new skin. An exfoliant can be as simple as a face cloth or as high-tech as the latest serums containing AHAs.

Step four -- Moisturize.

Your skin should be treated with a daytime moisturizer that provides a broad spectrum sunscreen daily. At night, using a more intense moisturizer helps to rebalance and normalize your skin as you sleep. All skin types really need moisturizing twice a day. For oily skins, use oil free formulas and oil in emulsions. Water in oil formulations suit dry normal skin. You should always spritz your skin with water before applying moisturizer.
