Editor's Note

Hello everyone! I have made a major change to DCW! All the content sections are now available to non-members as well. This has been chiefly done to promote the work of our members to a larger audience. BUT...members get lots of special benefits. The FREEBIES section still remains completely for our registered members. I am re-doing the entire FREEBIES section and can't wait to show it off to you all! Boy...will you be pleased when you see the goodies in it. Apart from freebies, ONLY MEMBERS get free listings in the Business Directories - Shopping, Ezine and Affiliate. Articles, Tips, Craft Projects, Travel Guides, Columns from members will always be given preference. In fact, if content keeps flowing in, I will prefer to use only our members' offerings.

Updating the entire website was a tough job, and I am sure there are still some bugs to be fixed. If you face any difficulties while browsing through DCW, Please, please let me know at lata@dotcomwomen.com

LET'S TALK BUSINESS (MONEY MATTERS)

Tips for Moms

DCW Member has started a regular column in our 'Money Matters' section giving valuable tips for Moms to save money.

Free Stuff that you really need!

Ever run out of space on your check register, with debit transactions, along with check transactions, it is very easy to do. So you resort to finding something else to write on, until you use up all the checks and order new ones with a new register. Or have your checkbook cover ripped in half suddenly? This has happened to all of us at one time or another. Don't fret, help is here. Look for that 800 number that is on your reorder form, and give them a call. Ask for extra registers, and an extra checkbook cover. I did this with the company that I ordered from, and the surprising part was that these supplies are free, and so was the shipping! They will automatically send you 2 registers, but I requested 4. They were more than happy to satisfy me, a customer.

Summer Party Ideas

Come Summer and the Party People start grooming up for organizing 'cool' Summer Parties. Although they are a great idea for family fun, Summer Parties are not restricted to families alone. Remember old friends, call up your relatives and make your party rock.

Summer Parties need not necessarily be held on Beaches or expensive hotels and Pool sides. You can have one right in your backyard!

Here are two groovy ideas for having your Summer Party.

Indoor Party
Here's how to make the best of an Indoor Summer Party:

1. Make it a 'Beach' themed party.
2. Decorate your interiors based on Beach Themes and use fans, air conditioners, air coolers etc. to keep the room breezy.
3. Move away your chairs and sofas and get some boulders (look-alike cushions will do) and mats.
4. Place a couple of Beach Umbrellas if you can get hold of some.
5. Use a 'Beach scene' wallpaper on a prominent wall.
6. If a projector can be arranged, use it to project a 'Live' Beach scene on a wall.
7. Keep the Dress Code for the party necessarily a 'Beach Theme'.
8. An old surf board will also add to the look.
9. Serve 'Seafood' and lots of cool beverages.
10. As for you yourself, get a special look - how about a Mermaid dress with sequined seashells? Think about it!

Outdoor Party
A lawn, garden, a local park or even your backyard will be a lovely place to host your Summer Party outdoors.

1. Clean Up! Whichever spot you choose, be sure to clean it up thoroughly to avoid any hazards for your guests.
2. Make proper arrangements for ample light and mosquito repellants. Lanterns can be hung on Tree trunks to present a lovely sight.
3. If the party is not on a very short notice, prepare in advance. Build a Garden Pond. It would be the 'coolest' thing to happen to your party!
4. A Garden figure such as a birdbath or a small fountain will complete the picture.
5. You can set up a tent and make your party a 'Camping Party'. You can also have a 'Campfire'.
6. A Game of Treasure Hunt with clues to the prize hidden under small rocks, flower petals, tree trunks etc. will spice up the evening.
7. If you have a musical talent amongst your guests, be sure to arrange for a Guitar or other such musical instrument or request that guest beforehand to come prepared with it.
8. A Gas Barbeque will be perfect for the food.
9. Use paper plates and other such disposable utensils. Place neatly painted garbage cans to dispose these.
10. If you have a swimming pool nearby, a 'Moonlight Swim' will be the perfect finale to your Summer Party.

BEAUTY

Summer Skin Care

Tanning - Although a tan may look nice, in the long run the sun's rays will do lots of damage to your skin, not to mention the possibility of skin cancer. An alternative to looking tanned is to choose a tanning cream. These creams can be found at any cosmetics counter and are easy to use and safe on your skin. And if you use a tanning salon to start out your tan, that does not mean it is any safer to go out in the sun.

Sun Prevention - If whenever possible, stay out of the sun. If you are out and about, protect your skin by using a sunblock on not only your face but also your hands. Not only does the sun contribute to dryness and wrinkles, but it can also contribute to skin cancer.

CRAFT-CORNER

Design Trend - Add Lighthouse images to your design.

Lighthouses... Are also a big piece of our Coastal heritage. Like barns they vary greatly in size and style and date back to the very beginning of American History. A little research at your local library will turn up a wealth of information and photos to get you started.
With the interest in nostalgia and preserving our past heritage, barns and lighthouses are important item to consider no matter what media you work in, wood, ceramics, needlecrafts, decorative painting etc. Incorporating these into your designs could prove a winner for you.
