LET'S TALK BUSINESS
The Benefits of
Ryze
by Kara Kelso (DCW Member)
Thousands of people are flocking to
Ryze, but what's the fuss about? Ryze holds a world of opportunity
for those in business, and even those not in business.
What is Ryze? Ryze is a networking
community, similar to message boards or Yahoo Groups. Although
imagine for a minute that all those groups and boards were rolled
up into one site and you had a person page all about you. This
concept IS Ryze. The personal page eliminates the need for
signatures in messages, due to a clickable link leading to your
personal page.
Your first step when joining Ryze is
creating your personal page. Here are a few tips for creating your
home page:
~ Pictures are a must, even if they
are just your business logo. Personal pages with pictures get much
more attention.
~ Information about your business -
why it was started, what your goals behind the business are,
specials, and a subscription box in you have a newsletter
~ Personal information - pictures of
your family, what you like to do in your spare time, information on
your hobbies and interests.
~ Set up your email, address, home
phone, and any other information you would like to give people on
an individual basis. This can be done by clicking on "Edit
personal info" (Link on the left hand side), then choosing
"Contact Info for release to others".
After your home page is set up, it's time to join a message board
(called "networks" on Ryze. Start slow by only joining one or two,
and be sure they are of interest to you. Read the rules of the
board and read through a few posts to get a "feel" of the board
before joining. There are two purposes of a network that are
similar to regular groups and message boards:
1. Meet new people ~ This does not mean finding people to
advertise to. A person you meet can do several different things:
- Become a customer
- Introduce you to another customer
- Open up other networking opportunities
- Become a partner
- Become a friend
You can get to know those you meet on networks a step further by
visiting their home pages (just like the one you set up) and
signing their guest book. From their home page you can view their
site and any other information they have, along with the other
networks they are members of and their list of friend. If you
should add them as a friend, their name will show up on your home
page as a friend of yours.
2. Share Ideas/Get Opinions ~ Key word here being SHARE. Asking
for ideas and opinions is good, but giving them is more important.
Be sure you are giving back to the community.
The opportunities are endless on Ryze. Aside from finding others
on networks, you can visit home pages of people your friends have
added as a friend. Pay close attention to an individual's "Want"
and "Have" located at the top of their page. Also be sure to visit
their web sites for possible link exchanges.

FASHION
Travel Right -- Fashionable Tips for the Jet-Setter
You struggle with what to wear on a daily basis, so simplify your
vacation wardrobe to maximize your relaxation time. With a few key
pieces and a streamlined strategy, you can look chic, comfy and
appropriate at all times.
Here's an easy approach to casual, warm-weather destinations:
1. Comfort is the key. When traveling, look for fabrics that stretch
like cotton knits or blends (nylon/lycra/spandex). These items pack
better and usually come out wrinkle-free.
2. Colors should be basic; separates should mix and match. Black,
white, khaki and denim are ideal, but don't be afraid of punchy
colors like red or orange for summer.
3. Take at least one sarong. This is a lifesaver, because you can
wear it to and from the beach and pool, wrap it around your swimsuit
and take off for a four-wheel adventure, pair it with a tank top for
brunch or cocktail hour.
4. Shorts and tops make an easy daytime uniform. Take a few extra
tank tops to layer with button-up blouses or to wear on their own.
Avoid logo Ts or flashy designer goods -- they'll make you stand out
as a tourist.
5. Dresses for night, either long or short, make looking pulled
together in a snap. As we all know, a great black dress will take
you anywhere.
6. A cardigan. Lightweight knit cardigans in basic black or white
can be tossed around the shoulders, layered over a T-shirt or tank
dress, or worn alone with dressy pants for dinner.
7. Buy accessories there. Leave your expensive jewelry at home and
buy local treasures. If you are in the islands, add a recently
purchased coral necklace or straw bangle bracelets.
8. Two pair of shoes -- are the bare minimum, casual sandals and
dressy sandals. Two optional additions: thongs for the pool or
sneaker/athletic shoes.
9. Dress like yourself. Vacations might seem ideal for trying a new
look (it's not like you're ever going to see those people again) but
don't be tempted to vary too far from your style. Not only will you
feel uncomfortable, you'll waste lots of space and time with clothes
you won't like wearing.
10. Take a hat. A summer vacation is one of the few places a large-
brimmed straw hat is not going to look ridiculous. Take advantage!
-- Travel Rules --
* Take easy-care fabrics. Lightweight wovens and knits can be washed
and dripped dry in a hotel room.
* Leave your expensive clothes behind if you travel with kids.
* A big tote that zips on the top (to deter pickpockets) is a travel
necessity.
* Veteran travelers never worry about fancy luggage. Airline travel
is just as hard on status luggage as practical bags, so don't waste
your money.
* Don't travel too light. It's better to have an extra outfit or two
than to be stuck with nothing to wear (or worse -- overpay for
something from the hotel shops that you'll never wear again).
So pack well and enjoy your vacation. We all know you deserve it!
Enjoy!
BEAUTY
FOOT CARE
Time to give the most
important but long neglected body parts some attention. Here are
some must-do's for you (MUST DO!! Write that in your to-do list
NOW!)
-
Remove rough spots &
calluses with a good quality pumice stone.
-
Walk barefoot It is a
good form of massage, helping to strengthen foot muscles, energize
aching & tired feet.
-
Wriggle your toes too so
that they loosen up.
-
Treat your feet to
either a warm or cooling bath, massaging & scrubbing at the same
time then dry your feet, especially between toes.
-
Alternate your shoes.
Give the pair worn the previous day a chance to air & breathe.
-
To avoid getting
blisters, rub with a new bar of soap along the edges or areas within
the shoes.
I will include some
essential tips on your shoes in the next issue. Watch out for it.
HOME-CARE
Cleaning Your House - Getting
Started
Cleaning chores can pile up to the
point where we give up before we begin. Here are some tips to get
you started with the basics.
Make a List
The first step in everyday cleaning is to look at each room and
make a checklist of your priorities. Identify specific tasks and,
as each job is completed, cross it off your list.
Minimize Distractions
Turn off the TV.
- Let the answering machine pick up
the phone.
- Have all necessary cleaning tools
in the room to avoid unnecessary trips to your cleaning closet.
- Start at the top of a room and
work your way down as you clean or straighten.
Clean as You Go
- If it??™s dirty ??“ don??™t wait another
week to tackle the project. It takes less time to remove fresh
dirt than caked-on dirt.
- Have all family members make their
own beds.
- Keep a hamper in every bathroom
for dirty clothes. Remind your family that if they make a habit of
regularly putting away their clothes or belongings, that there
will be more time later for enjoyable activities.
- Before bedtime, pick up the family
room and run the dishwasher. Get a fresh start each day.
