What's HOT at DCW

Congratulations to LYNN TERRY, our Dot Com Woman of the month for August. For a woman who sold everything to open an electronic shop with her husband, only to be left alone when the business took off, Lynn is, at the age of 30, unusually popular, successful and at peace with her life. She enjoys being a single mother to two kids and sharing joys and sorrows with her 91 year old Grandmother over a cup of coffee.

How did this dynamic woman start her journey towards success at a point where most of us give up. Know more about the inspiring story of her life at http://www.dotcomwomen.com/dcw.shtml

LET'S TALK BUSINESS

Bring Forward File
(by DCW Member TRACEY SMITH)

It's been a LONG time since I worked in an office. I left that environment JUST as the internet was kicking in and the computer seemed to rule to world.

I used to be a personal assistant many moons ago. A secret to one of the best organisation tools I have ever come across, was given to be by a lovely chap called Norman Cuddeford. He used to commentate for the BBC from time to time on sporting matters, Wimbledon and the like, but also had a full time job in the city, where I used to work for him. He was a SWEETIE!

The Bring Forward File is one of the easiest things to operate and it will ensure you NEVER miss an important date, break a deadline promise or forget to chase overdue monies!

Order from your local stationery store, a concertina file with little tabs on the top marked 1-31.

Go through your BULGING in-tray and on the top right corner of each piece of paper, pencil on the date you need to DO SOMETHING to it, or for it, ie, pay a bill on May 2nd, pencil "2 MAY" it on the top and put the paper in the section marked "2".

If you are expecting a call regarding a new product by next Thursday, pencil "12 June" on the top corner and file it under "12" and so on.

By the time you get to the end of your mad in-tray, you should be left with a set of papers that relate to TODAY only, which keeps the mind focused on the jobs in hand. You can concentrate on the other tasks as they arise, keeping your mind sharpened and ultimately more efficient!

After you have tended to a matter, if it then requires your further attention at a future date, place the new date beside it and you also have a record or how many times this particular task has been brought to your attention. Useful!

Each morning, you open the Bring Forward File and remove papers for that date, pop them in the in-tray and there you go!

Tidier in-tray, more focused, more efficient AND in control of all jobs and reminders, without having to commit a single one to memory - extremely handy, when like me, the three kids you bore life too, took a dozen brain cells a piece at birth.

FASHION

Fall Fashion Forecast

Adapted from information provided by BeautiControl Cosmetics.

What goes around comes around.  The '60s are back (again) and so
are the '80s.  Designers are taking the most sophisticated looks
of these decades to create glamorous, polished looks for fall
complete with ladylike coordinating coats, purses, hats, gloves,
and shoes.

Runways are showing '60s-inspired shift dressing: mini-dresses
worn with opaque tights or over-the-knee boots.  Also short
skirts with matching Jackie O. jackets.  Also, '80s-inspired
leggings (yikes) but this time worn discreetly under coats.
Also ruffled plaids, exaggerated collars, and full-bloom sleeves.

Think elegant and sophisticated this fall.  Red lips, shimmering
eyes, subtle cheeks, strong brows, bangs, painted nails, ponytails
that are not too high but swept up.

For clothing styles, pencil thin is in.  For day: clean, understated
dresses.  Sheaths and slim styles in simple colors, especially black
and white.  For night: elegance will rule with cocktail dresses
adorned with ruffles and pleats.  Shiny fabrics and sequins.

Skirt hemlines will be either eyebrow-raising high or pencil-slim
knee length worn with fitted jackets.

Men's wear is back in rich tweeds, houndstooth, and herringbone
weaves, pinstripes, white shirts, argyle sweaters, suit coats paired
with mini-skirts and slim pants.  Pants are slim - stovepipe styles
paired with hip-length jackets or long coats.

Classic jackets will be paired with sexy bustiers and lace detailing.

Glamorous knee-high and over-the-knee boots are a key purchase this
fall.

Shoes - designers borrowed from the decades offering a walk through
history.  '50s-inspired square toes.  '60s-inspired pointy slingbacks.
'70s-inspired glittering disco sandals with fishnet hose. '80s-inspired
pumps.  There's something here for everyone.

Handbags will be ladylike and structured, perfectly complementing
gloves and shoes.  Exotic leather in fun colors, optical prints,
chain handles.

BEAUTY

Makeup tricks

Women naturally have creases and shadows along the sides of the
nose and leading to the corners of the lips. Apply a small bit
of concealer with a sponge along these creases to downplay the
darkness of these areas.

If you have dark circles under your eyes, use a yellow concealer
stick under your foundation to cover them up. The yellow helps
the darkness not to poke through the foundation.

If you have a problem with bleeding lipstick, there is hope.
Apply a small bit of foundation with your sponge on dry lips.
Then apply lip liner around the edges of your lips to draw a
boundary for the lipstick. This will help keep your lipstick
where it belongs. Lipstick bleeding is sometimes caused by
dry, cracked skin around the lips.

HEALTH & NUTRITION

Herbs- They Offer a Lot More Than Flavor!

Use herbs in your diet in place of sugar, salt or fat to help provide a health benefit, especially for people with diabetes. Herbs such as rosemary, parsley, tarragon, basil, thyme and dill are plants that contain phytochemicals and are currently being studied for cancer-fighting potential similar to ingredients found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. In addition, some herbs may contain antioxidants. Oregano and rosemary are herbs known to be high in antioxidants. Rosemary has also been used as a natural food preservative to help keep fats, oils and meat products from going rancid. Other herbs with antioxidant properties include basil, marjoram, sage, thyme, spearmint and peppermint.

Easy Ways to Add Herbs to Foods You Eat

*Sprinkle pizza with oregano, basil, marjoram, thyme or parsley
*Add a mixture of herbs (oregano, basil, and marjoram) to marinara sauce
*Steam fresh vegetables with rosemary
*Add chopped mint to fresh fruit
*Mix herbs into a favorite casserole or salad for extra flavor
*Make herbal teas using spearmint or peppermint
*Top seafood with dill and parsley.
