MONEY MATTERS

Investments - Short Term or Long term?
Continued...

Long Term Investments are those, which are made for a period of more than three years, and they are planned till retired age as well. Taking capital gains and risk cover factors into consideration, which provide solid foundation of financial self-dependency in retired age and platform for heirs, makes these investments. Apart from low tax on capital gains long term investments also have other tax benefits.

Long-term investment tools are

1) Real Estate Investments
2) Annuities
3) Life Insurance
4) Long term deposits with government bodies
5) Long term deposits in bonds
6) Capital investments in corporate sector or in any secured business in form of asset

Long-term investment tools are common for everybody irrespective of financial class however; investments and return are subject to one??™s financial capacity.
Financial planning plays vital role in one??™s life as it gives clear picture of one??™s position and the strategic direction in which one is going ahead and it is the only mode to prepare oneself from those events which will inevitably occur in ones life irrespective of whether one anticipate with them or not.

Intelligent investors realize the importance of financial planning first and begin to work on savings before investing which enable them to generate surplus cash and start planning strategically.

HOLIDAY RECIPES

Beverages for Winter Holidays

For many people, winter means rum toddies and spiked coffee. But for those who want the taste and warmth that hot drinks provide without the alcohol effects, there are still options. Frank Thomas and Karen L. Brown detail these and many other delicious beverages in their book "The Mocktail Bar Guide: 200 Recipes for Alcohol-Free Drinks"

Hot Cocoa l'Orange

Topping: 1.5 tablespoons heavy cream, chilled 1/4 teaspoon dark brown sugar (not packed)

Drink: 1 large orange 1 cup milk 2 ounces premium milk chocolate, chopped 1/2 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

Whisk together topping ingredients in bowl until stiff peaks form. Cover and chill. Use vegetable peeler to remove rind from orange. Place rind in large saucepan. Add milk and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and cover. Allow to steep 20 to 30 minutes. Strain, then return liquid to saucepan. Bring to simmer again over medium-high heat. Whisk in chocolate and cocoa powder until thoroughly melted and well-blended. Pour into Irish coffee glass and add chilled topping.

Hot Apple Buttered Rumless

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed 1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened 1/4 teaspoon finely shredded lemon peel 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice 5 cups Martinelli's Cider or Apple Juice 10 teaspoons rum extract

For butter mixture, mix ingredients in small mixing bowl until well-combined. Use immediately or cover and chill for up to one month.

For each serving, place one rounded tablespoon of butter mixture in coffee mug. Bring Martinelli's Cider or Apple Juice to a boil, then pour into mugs. Add one teaspoon rum extract to each. Stir well. Yields 10 servings.

HOLIDAY DECORATING

Three Easy Ways to Update Your Home for the Holidays

As winter draws near, thoughts turn to the holidays and everything that comes with them ??“ cooking the turkey, buying presents, visiting friends and family and, of course, holiday entertaining. Whether it is an intimate dinner, neighborhood cocktails or a full-blown, packed house celebration, a lot of work goes into the preparation. For many hosts, it??™s not only about the food, beverages and entertainment, but the appearance of their home as well.

Not long ago, decorating for the holidays was as simple as putting a wreath on the front door and hanging garland and balls on the tree. Now, hosting a get-together is an opportunity to make a home more welcoming and appealing to guests and family members ??“ and an opportunity to be remembered for more than just the sparkling lights and fabulous foods. Many people host get-togethers during the holiday season because that is when their house looks the best.

Besides holiday decorating, there are easy ways to update your home for the holiday entertaining and provide a million-dollar look on a shoestring budget. Here are three ideas to give your home a whole new look. They??™re quick, easy and inexpensive enough to do before any holiday entertaining.

1. Instant Class

One of the easiest home updates is to replace tired wood or stained carpet with a durable high-pressure laminate floor. Laminate flooring provides the look of expensive woods or stones, but will never age, discolor, scratch or dent, and is available at a price that you can afford. One manufacturer known for award winning designs is Wilsonart Flooring. It??™s newest designs, such as Smoked Oak, Mountain Mahogany or English Cherry will add class and distinction to a tired entryway, busy kitchen or worn family room. The finished look will have guests ???ohhing??? and ???ahhing??? before they get through the front door ??“ and since laminate is stain and scratch proof, it could provide the easiest post-party clean-up you have ever had.

2. Dull to Dynamic

Adding a fresh coat of paint can make a room look new ??“ for a price that is in the holiday budget. Pick a color that complements d?©cor already in the room and paint an accent wall. You??™ll be surprised how bright the room becomes and how different your original d?©cor looks. Holiday colors, such as red and gold, complement holiday decorations and never go out of season.

3. Lighten Up

Though a darkened room can add plenty of atmosphere to a party, old lighting fixtures can really age a room. By updating the current fixture, or adding some additional lighting options, you can create a whole new look. You can bring new life to a dated chandelier with a coat of paint and new shades. If your existing lighting looks "flat," consider track lighting, which can give a room a dynamic flair by spotlighting various areas. Affordable chic floor and table lamps can also add instant glamour to a room without doing any structural changes.

Between Thanksgiving feasts, Christmas dinners, New Year??™s bashes and seasonal parties, the holidays provide many opportunities for friends and family to get together. Every homeowner wants the opportunity to show off a stylish, put-together home, and a holiday get-together is truly the time to prove that there is no place like home for the holidays.
