Congratulations to LYNN TERRY,
our Dot Com Woman of the month for August. For a woman who
sold everything to open an electronic shop with her husband, only to
be left alone when the business took off, Lynn is, at the age of 30,
unusually popular, successful and at peace with her life. She enjoys
being a single mother to two kids and sharing joys and sorrows with
her 91 year old Grandmother over a cup of coffee.
How did this dynamic woman start her journey towards
success at a point where most of us give up. Know more about the inspiring story of her
life at

LET'S TALK BUSINESS
How Not to Begin Your Internet
Career!
By DCW Member Linda Offenheiser
When I first decided to start an Internet business it was a
complete comedy of errors. I made every mistake a newbie
can possibly make. If I missed one or two it was simply
dumb luck.
At that time I didn't have any idea of what I really wanted
to do. My lack of direction left me prey to all of the scams
out there. I joined any program that sounded easy and
promised quick money. (Just a little naive huh?) My bank
account took a definite dip.
It wasn't just the "get-rich-quick" schemes I fell victim
to! I also bought an impressive array of eBooks and
eCourses - all of them containing information I HAD to have
to be successful on the net.
By the time I'd finished reading the first three or four of
these I was suffering from a severe case of information
overload. And . . . my bank account had taken yet another
plunge.
By then I was confused, depressed and broke. None of the
programs I'd joined had brought in appreciable income.
Every day, without fail, I was submitting hundreds of ads
(all to safelists). I'd earned the grand sum of $2.50!
That was when I almost quit - thankfully I didn't. Instead
I read a lot of free ezine articles, joined forums and
bought a recommended (and affordable) course that showed
me what I was doing wrong and how to correct it.
I still haven't made a fortune but I am building a solid
business I enjoy. I continue to learn from my mistakes -
no, I don't have it all down perfectly yet.
Despite all of the ads that tell you differently, I don't
think there is a magic formula for success on the Internet.
But I do believe that taking the following steps will help
you along the right path.
* Get to know people who are successful and whom you
respect. Ask questions. Get recommendations for
resources and methods they find helpful.
* Start out with just one or two programs you have
researched and believe will fit your goals. This will
allow you to focus your efforts - and save you money.
* Define your potential customers. Get inside their skin.
Figure out what they want. Then target your advertising
to reach them.
* Track your ads to find out where your responses are
coming from. Get rid of advertising that isn't working.
* Most of all, remember that any legitimate business takes
time and effort to build. Success isn't going to come
overnight. Keep your goals in mind constantly. Promote
your business consistently and . . . don't give up!
Remember this:
"If you could get up the courage to begin,
you have the courage to succeed."
-- David Viscott

FOOD
CAKE TIPS
The lightest, fluffiest, densest, moistest, most decadent and
delicious cakes take a lot of tender love and care ??“ and sometimes a
tip or two from the experts.
Best Cake Volume
Ingredients should be kept at room temperature to achieve the best
cake volume.
Bake cakes on the middle oven rack.
Creamed Mixtures
Often a creamed mixture of butter, eggs and sugar will look curdled
but this will correct itself once the flour is added.
Removing Air Bubbles
Bang most cake pans firmly against the counter top in order to
eliminate any large air bubbles which may have formed in the batter.
Do not do this with Angel Food Cake, Sponge Cake, or cakes with a
lot of fruit or nuts in them.
Frosting Cakes
Do not frost cakes until they are completely cool.
Proper Heat Distribution
For proper heat distribution, cake pans should not touch each other
or the sides of the oven during baking.
Raisins, Nuts & Candied Fruit
Raisins, nuts and candied fruit will sink in cake batters that are
not stiff enough to suspend them. Chopping them finely will help
keep them suspended in the batter.
Easy Slicing
For easy slicing and the best flavour, fruit cakes should be made at
least four weeks in advance then wrapped and stored in the
refrigerator. Cut cold cake with a sharp, thin, non-serrated knife.
Greasing Cake Pans
Do not use butter, margarine or oil to grease cake pans, or cake may
stick to pans and brown too much. Use shortening or cooking spray.
Quick Cake Decoration
For a quick cake decoration, place a large doily over cake then
sprinkle with icing sugar. Remove doily gently.
BEAUTY
Hot Aroma Bath Soak
Choose your favorite flower such as roses, gardenias, lavender,
etc. Put 2 cups into a cheesecloth and allow to soak in a hot tub.
Relax in this wonderfully aromatic bath.
HOME
Can't get that
cigarette odor out of the air? Is the pet odor lingering in your
home?
Freshening the air in your home is easy with these odor removal
tips.
Here's an air freshening tip: Instead of using mechanical air
filters, you can use nature's air filters--plants. Tests show that
common houseplants remove pollutants as they go through their
natural process of photosynthesis.
Plants are very effective at removing gases such as formaldehyde,
carbon monoxide, benzene, cigarette smoke and ozone, which are
harmful for us to breathe, but are a gourmet meal for a plant. Aloe
vera, bamboo palm, common chrysanthemums, dracena palms, spider
plants, and philodendrons are some of the best air filters. It takes
about 15 good size plants to adequately purify the air in an average
home.
